20.Will anyone Step up at receiver for the Trojans?
Right now it is anyones guess as to who will step up at WR for the Trojans, but I expect to see significant improvement. At WR Patrick Turner, and Videl Hazelton are both back, but neither has played very well. Turner especially has not lived up to the hype. Hazelton has shown flashes of brilliance and may breakout this season. The X-Factor is Arkansas transfer Damien Williams. Williams impressed during the spring and should see significant playing time. Ronald Johnson is another great talent and may see more touches than a year ago, for he is very explosive. David Ausberry is the other WR who may see time. He is another 5* talent, and if not for the logjam at WR would see more touches.
19.Who's the second-best team in the Big Ten?
It is pretty obvious that OSU is the best team in the Big Ten, so the question arises who is #2 in the Big Ten. To me the team that should be #2 it is Wisconsin. They return loads of talent, in a stable of RB's and an "O" line that both among the best in the nation. If presumed starter Allan Everidge plays well this team can maybe with some luck knock OSU off of the top spot in the Big Ten, and I see this as the only team that can challenge OSU in the Big Ten. Illinois if Juice Williams develops big time and the defense has many breakout stars, could be #2, and possibly MSU if the offense explodes and the "D" shocks a lot of people may be #2, but most likely it will be Wisky.
18.Which team is going to take the biggest fall from last season?
The first obvious response to this question is Hawaii, they only return 8 starters and lost their head coach. I think they will take a steep fall to 6-6 or 5-7, and their offense especially will suffer big time. After Hawaii their a couple of other teams that can expect a big fall. One is Michigan, in year 1 of the spread offense, and new coach, and having a young team returning only 10 starters I expect the m to go 6-6 or 7-5. another team is Kansas, but I'll get more into that later. Last I'm gonna throw a team out their in a transition year. Arkansas. I think their won't be a significant drop off I think 6-6, but it wouldn't shock me if they went anywhere as bad as 4-8, because I don't think Casey Dick can handle this new pass heavy offense.
17.How many rushes for Tebow/ Will anyone step up at RB for the Gators?
Well their has been statements made by Urban Meyer numerous times that Tim Tebow will not carry the ball as much this season. I think that because of this that the Gators really need someone other than Percy Harvin or Tim Tebow to carry the ball. So will someone step up at RB for the Gators. I think so, Chris Rainey stepped up big time in the spring, and should see significant touches, and be the head of the backfield unless Emmanuel Moody plays like he did at USC 2 seasons ago. Expect those two to share carries, and give the defense something more to think about, and most importantly keep Tebow healthy until they need him.
16.Who will be the QB at Michigan?
This is the question that everyone wants to know. I think that the early edge is to Steven Threet the GT transfer. Threet is not very mobile, but he has a good arm, the best accuracy, and I believe the best grasp on the offense. I expect him to be the starter. Justin Feagin is the Frosh, a player who is the best fit for RichRod's offense. Feagin is not a very polished passer, but is a speedy athletic QB. Feagin has a slim chance to win the job, but is the most talented. The x-factor is Nick Sheridan. Sheridan is a walk-on, but has great athleticism and decent passing skills. Sheridan was impressive in the Spring and may see some playing time if an injury occurs.
15.Will Kansas duplicate the results of their 2007-2008 season?
I would be stunned if they did. Here are some simple reasons why. Instead of the charmin-soft schedule of last season this team plays some real contenders this season. They lose Big 12 South foes Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Baylor instead Kansas plays Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech. Oh and this season they have real non-conference challenges including a game against USF. Expect the tough schedule, and graduation of all-americans Aqib Talib, and Anthony Collins to have Kansas flying back to earth with a 7-5 or 8-4 record.
14.Who will be LSU's QB?
To me this is a huge question. It is a 2 man race between Jarrett Lee, and Harvard transfer Andrew Hatch. I think the job is Lee's to lose, though he is less experienced than Hatch, Lee is more talented, and has a better arm, at least to my knowledge.Hatch seems to be the more mobile QB, but not by a lot in my mind. I expect Lee to be the starter, but whoever starts more than likely will be sitting on the bench next year behind Jordan Jefferson and Russell Sheppard.
13.Can anyone in the Pac-10 knock off the USC Trojans?
This to me is another simple question. Right now no. The Pac-Ten is down, and USC is not. In fact I expect USC to lose a Pac-Ten game, but probably in an upset, not because they are not the better team. I think the only team that has a shot of knocking them off is ASU, because of the way they can move the ball, but I don't think ASU will even be #2 in the conference, I believe that honor will go to Oregon. Anyway another Pac-Ten title for USC, is what I expect.
12.Will Notre Dame improve?
Yes, they will, but not to the BCS standards, that some people are claiming. This will be a better team than last year, they added plenty of talent, and returns key players like Jimmy Clausen, Duval Kumara, Sam Young, and Mo Crum Jr. The thing is this team is not good enough to win more than 8 games, I see them at 6-6, maybe pulling a few upsets, but no better than 8-4. This team doesn't have the o-line, or secondary to beat some teams they have on their schedule.
11.What coaches are likely to be fired, if they don't perform?
To me this a make or break season for these coaches: Tyrone Willingham at Washington, Mike Stoops at Arizona , Ralph Freigen at Maryland,Bobby Johnson, at Vanderbilt, Mark Snyder at Marshall, and though it is early for these two Randy Shannon of Miami, and Steve Kragthorpe of Louisville.
10.Which new coach will have the most success?
I am going to go with Bill Stewart at WVU, he came into a successful program, and should get 9-11 wins with the talent they have down in Morgantown. After him I see Mike Sherman, Bo Pelini, Rick Neuheisel, RichRod, and Paul Johnson in a close race.
9.Which Freshman will have the biggest Impact?
A pair of Freshman should have huge impacts for me. First RB Darrell Scott of Colarado. He was the #1 RB, and should be the starter this season. He is a perfect all-around back, great size, blazing speed, and what impresses me is his versatility, he may be a Kick, and Punt Returner, and he has great hands. Second Julio Jones a WR for Alabama. He is another 5* top 5 recruit, but with the graduation of DJ Hall I expect Jones to have a similar impact to the one that Rejus Benn had last season, they are very similar players.
8.Who are the next Chase Daniel, and Todd Reesing, Heisman sleepers?
Here are some names I think are sleepers and if their team has a big year maybe gets to a BCS bowl you could see in NYC: Willie Tuitama, QB, Arizona, Max Hall, QB, BYU, Jake Locker, QB, Washington, Matt Grothe, South Florida, QB, Dan LeFevour, QB, CMU, Nate Davis, QB, Ball State,Zac Robinson, Oklahoma State, QB, Ian Johnson, RB, Boise State,Javon Ringer, Michigan State, RB, DeMarco Murray, Oklahoma, RB, Marlon Lucky, Nebraska, RB, Arian Foster, Tennessee, RB
7.Who are this seasons sleeper teams?
If you read my last blog I covered this topic. I think USF, due to their all-around talent and favorable schedule, BC, because of their star studded receiver core, and front 7, Arizona, due to their great offense, FAU, leading amount of returning starters back, MSU, because of their high powered offense, and let me mention a couple of other names. Nebraska, because of their great new coach, solid offense, and solid defense, Washington, because of an experienced offense, and Jake Locker.
6.What are the Big Games to watch this season?
I think these 5 games should be circled. OSU at USC- this is a game that has huge national title implications, a battle between 2 top 5 teams early in the season, that should determine the early national title favorite Georgia against Florida, in a game that will decide the SEC East, and maybe which team is going to go to the national title game. Next is a game in week 1. Illinois against Mizzou. A pair of high powered offenses giving battle. The winner should get a big leg up in the BCS race. Texas Tech at Oklahoma, this will be a high powered game, with a pair of offenses that can both light it up. This game should decide the Big 12 South, and again have a huge National Title game impact. Georgia at Arizona State ,should also be a good game, though ASU may not be as good as many claim.
5.Which conference will be the best in 2008?
The SEC, yet again will be the best conference. The depth is what separates the conference. They have top-15 teams in Georgia, Florida, Auburn, and LSU, and a pair of other top 25 teams in Tennessee, and Bama. Through in gringe top 25 teams in Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Ole Miss, and thats why this conference is so good. But, the SEC is not as far ahead as many claim. The Big 12 is very close with Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas Tech, Texas, Kansas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State.
4.Who will win the non-BCS conferences?
C-USA- Tulsa
MAC-Ball State
MWC- BYU
Sun Belt- FAU
WAC- Fresno State
3.Who will win the Heisman?
This is a hard question, but at the end of the season I think it will come down to these players. Tim Tebow, Beanie Wells, Michael Crabtree, and Chase Daniel. I am going to go out on a limb and pick Daniel, because I think he will have yet another huge season, and show up in all the big games.
2.Who will win the BCS conferences?
ACC- Clemson
Big 12- Missouri
Big 10- Ohio State
Big East- Pitt
Pac Ten- USC
SEC- Georgia
1.Who will play in the BCS Bowls?
Rose Bowl- Wisconsin vs. USC
Sugar Bowl- Florida vs Pitt
Fiesta Bowl- Missouri vs BYU
Orange Bowl- Clemson vs Texas Tech
National Title- Ohio State vs Georgia
