Undefeated: Hey all. Hope you enjoy the first edition of FGCFF College Gameday!

cgameday

M: Well let's get down to business. Before the season starts, we're going to base each show by ranking the top 5 players at a couple of positions. Undy, what's our first position?

U: The most important... quaterback. Who's your #5 guy Mike?

M: Well to kick off my fabulous five quaterbacks list, I have a guy who's been leading his team to triumph for two years now. Give a warm round of applause to my #5...

Curtis Painter, Senior, Purdue

Curtis Painter

This guy has been dominating since he started leading the Boilermakers as a sophmore. Painter has led the BoilerMakers to two consecutive bowl games since he's been a starter. Last year he threw for nearly 4,000 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 INT's. The BoilerMakers don't have that tough of a conference schedule. They play Ohio St. and Michigan at home and don't play Wisconsin or Illinois at all. Painter should perform even better against a weaker Big 10 this year, and should get off to a strong start.
Undy who does your list start off with?

U: Painter is great, but I have to disagree. Give it up for my #5...

Matthew Stafford, Junior, Georgia

Matt Stafford

Stafford is a prototype NFL quarterback, with a great build for the position at 6'3'' and weighing 240. He has had huge starting time since his freshman year, and he plays in the best conference in college football, the SEC. Since Stafford has much experience, he will be more prepared for next season as starter. Knowshon Moreno(the UGA running back and Heisman candidate) will help to take pressure off of him, making him more effective. Last year, he averaged a QB rating of 128 and threw 19 touchdowns, and those numbers look to improve this upcoming season.

Back to you, Mike, for #4.

M: Nice pick Undy. It's going to be tough for him playing in the SEC though he has the talent and some around him to improve those numbers.

My #4 pick is a guy who tore his conference up as a freshman and looks to do it with even greater force as a sophmore. Put your hands together for my #4 guy:

Sam Bradford, Sophmore, Oklahoma

sb

Bradford had some of the best numbers you could ask for from a freshman quaterback last year. Try beating 3,100 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and only 8 interceptions your freshman season. Bradford did lose a key weapon in Malcolm Kelly but does have many other targets in his receiving core. He also has one of the best O-lines in the nation protecting him. Look for Bradford to do even more damage to the Big 12 this year than he did last year.

U: Mike I totally agree with you here. Sam Bradford has to be #4 this year. He is like Stafford in terms of body. Bradford has perfect length and strength. He has one of the best arms in the country (no need to point out stats since you have). Oklahoma looks to be a title contender, and his defense will get the ball back in his hands quickly and often. The loss of Kelly was huge, but not big enough to keep him from putting up numbers as big or better as the ones last year. Good pick Mike.

M: Hmm.... I guess great minds do think alike. Anyways let's get to my #3 Pick. He's a guy that uses his scrambling ability as well as his passing ability to eliminate opponents. Here's my numba 3...

Pat White,  Senior, West Virginia

pwhite

White is one of the best passing/scrambling combo's you could ask for. He ran and threw for more than 1,000 yards with 28 total touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. He did have a more than decent rushing attack behind him as well with Steve Slaton and Noel Devine. He also completed around 67% of his passes last year. Look for White to dominate the Big East for one last year.

U: I have to disagree Mike. Pat White is my number 2, and I will talk more about that in a moment. My #3 is...

Chase Daniel, Senior, Missouri

Chase Daniel

Chase has the edge on White in passing-slightly. The reason I have White ahead of Daniel is because there is a huge difference in running ability. It's not even close. Pat White's ability to run opens up more oppurtunities for passing, and he can tear apart the defenses in the Big East(which is also much weaker than the Big 12, so Daniel will have to face tougher defenses). Daniel, however, is above my other quarterbacks because of his efficient and consistent arm. Last year, he threw for over 4,000 yards and 33 TDs, while completing 69.7% of his passes and becoming the 1st Missouri player to win the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. Daniel has a great team, with an outstanding wide receiver, Jeremy Maclin. That's why Daniel is my #3. More to come on Pat White later.

M:

Very interesting Undy.

Though I can't see how Pat White is going to be better than Daniel this year.

Daniel is obviously my #2 guy. He definitely deserved to be a Heisman candidate last year and is a favorite for this year's running. Here's why he's better than White.

White seriously depends on his scrambling, he's good yes, but he didn't even throw for over 2,000 yards last season. And then there's always the spark of his injury problems. The Pitt loss will always remind us of that.

Daniel has most of his offensive weapons left, though they did lose Tony Temple and Martin Rucker to graduation they should be strong again with Jeremy Maclin running the receiving squad. Chase Daniel could be looking at a Heisman for his senior season.

Now tell me Undy, how is Pat White going to be better than Daniel this year?

U: Alright, Mike. Obviously, my #2 quarterback is Pat White, the senior out of West Virginia.

White has a huge edge in rushing. It's not even close. He has 10 more rushing TDs and over 1,000 more yards in rushing. Daniel has the slight edge in passing. However, I think we can both agree that Missouri passed the ball a lot more than West Virginia did last season. White had 216 attempts last year to Daniel's 563. WVU had Steve Slaton, so he carried the ball a lot. Obviously, Daniel's passing yards and TDs will be more. The stats that aren't swayed by attempts are compl. percentage and rating.

Daniel %- 68.2%
White %- 66.7%

Close.

White Rating- 151.4
Daniel Rating- 147.9

Again, the rushing was a huge factor as well. Also, the conferences is a big factor. While Missouri will be playing Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska, the Mountaineers will be facing Cincinnati, South Florida, Pitt, Rutgers, and Connecticut-those are only the best teams from the Big East. White will face much easier defenses.

Again, Daniel is a great passer. The overall better quarterback, however, is Pat White.

M: Well that ends that argument...

I think I know both of our #1 guys... I'm pretty sure it's the reigning heisman winnner Tim Tebow, the junior from Florida.

Tebow

Last year he was the first quaterback in history to throw and run for 20 touchdowns each, He was obviously the best player in the nation last year and he looks to be it again. Though this time he probably wants a championship to go along with it.

Undy, any more thoughts on what Tebow's going to do this year for the Gators?

U: I think you summed just about all of it up. No question he is #1.

That is about all I have to add concerning him.

M: I guess you would say that considering you like the Vols of Tennessee huh?

Well we're about almost done here though I want to do one more thing here before we end our quaterback segment.

Undy, who is your top quaterback that doesn't play football for a team in one of the BCS conferences?

U: I have to go Dan Lefevour. The junior out of Central Michigan became the second QB in I-A history to throw for over 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in a season last year. He had a 65.4 completion percentage last year all the while mantaining an average rating of 133.5. This guy is special.

dl

How about you Mike?

M: I really like that pick Undy. This Chippewa could bring his game to the next level, but he's not my pick.

My pick is BYU sophmore Max Hall. Last year he led the Cougars to a 10-2 record with a Las Vegas Bowl victory over UCLA as a freshman. Over all of last season he posted 3,848 passing yards, threw for 26 touchdown passes and only 12 INT's. He also had a comp. % of 60 and a QB Rating of 137.7. Look for this guy to tear the Mountain West up again and maybe even lead BYU to a BCS Berth.

max hall
