Joe Blanton has been traded to the Philadlephia Phillies for Josh Outman, Matthew Spencer, and Adrian Cardenas, all of who are minor leaguers.  Blanton is 4-12 with a 4.96 ERA this year pitching in the tougher American League.  While Blanton has had a rough year, he went 14-10 last year with a 3.95 ERA.  So we know the guy can pitch.

For Philadelphia, this is a great trade.  Blanton will improve when he switches to the NL.  You can expect a sub 4.00 ERA in the 2nd half from Blanton.  Blanton can work deep into games for Philadelphia and save the bullpen.  People are also forgetting that he is a very good pitcher.  Phillyfinally gets their pitcher and this should put them back in the drivers seat in the NL East, despite a recent resurgance by the Mets.

For Oakland, they could have gotten better.  Blantons value is low right now and Philadlephia was able to steal him with out giving up an elite prospect.  Blantons value was once high enough that Billy Beane was able to go to the Yankees and offer a Hughes for Blanton deal, which Yankee management declined.

The rest of thi season looks bleak for the Athletics.  With Harden and Blanton gone, their pitching is now depleted and with no major pitchers received in return, the team ERA is sure to sky rocket.  If any of you have Oakland pitching in your fantasy leagues, I suggest you drop it now.

In other news, the Yankees have come to an agreement with Richie Sexson.  Sexson should give the Yanks a power boost, but not much else.  This is a band aid fix to a major issue. So sorry Yankees fans, but Richie isnt going to put you guys over the top.

Clark to the D'Backs

Tony Clark has been aqyuired from the Padres for a minor league pitcher.  Yet again, a band aid to fix a major issue.  Does no one want Barry Bonds at all?  Bonds could have been obtained for the minimum!  If I were Josh Byrnes I would have signed Bonds.  But, Byrnes must figure Bonds will mess up chemistry to much.

Nice! I didn't know Phillies were looking for pitching. Hope he has better luck on the East coast.

As a minor Braves and Cubs fan I hope he stinks it up......But most likely he'll do great

The only thing I was wondering is if the Phils gave too much. I read that Cardenas was their second rated prospect, and that seems like a little much to give up for a guy that is 4-12 with a 5 ERA. I know Blanton has been better in the past, but I'm not sure his pitching this year justifies giving up an organization's #2 prospect.
