Mets (1st place) News!!!!

To top thnigs off the Mets played the Cincinnati Reds to open up their importtant second half of the season. Staring down a streak-ending loss, the Mets rallied to keep the chain unbroken. David Wright hit a two-run homer, Carlos Delgado contributed an RBI single and Fernando Tatis added the finishing touches with an RBI double. The win ties the Mets with the Phils atop the NL East. They are only the second team (Twins and Mets) to win 10 games in a row this season and have tied the Twins with ten straight wins. A win here would break it as the first place win streak this year. Also the Mets are now tied with the Phillies for first place in the NL East!!!!

However, there are two major injury dropoffs to the Mets roster recently.

1. "Martinez received a cortisone injection on Thursday to eliminate inflammation and promote healing in his right groin. Both the injury and the shot have forced the Mets to postpone Martinez's next start until Tuesday, at the earliest. Moreover, his absence eliminates Mike Pelfrey, the Mets' most effective starter of late, from the team's series against the Phillies at Shea Stadium next week."

2. " The Mets' hopes to move closer to full strength before they engage the Phillies next week have been dashed. Neither Ryan Church nor Angel Pagan is expected to return to active duty by Tuesday, when the top two teams in the National League East begin a three-game series at Shea. The club had hoped to have both disabled outfielders back -- Pagan for the series against the Reds, which began on Thursday, and Church for the set with the Phillies. Manager Jerry Manuel characterized Church's situation as "kinda ticklish," referring to the effects of the concussion Church sustained on May 20."

But so far they seem to look full strength to me. They have won 10 straight and some of their better are red hot and their pitchers are doing great.

Also here are some of the important players averages as of today:

Reyes: .298

Wright: .284

Beltran: .267

Delgado: .254

Also the win last night was given to Sanchez who is now 4-1 on the year. And along with that Billy Wagner got his 23 save without giving up a hit in the 9th inning which he played.
