Welcome everyone. This is the 3rd edition of The Daily Hangover. Thank you for all the fanmail requests, I will be sure to get to each topic. Let's get to it.

MLB

Joe Blanton is now in the Phillies rotation. Finally, they have help at pitcher. Adam Eaton has been horrible, with an ERA of 5.71. Philadelphia has given him a 3-year contract. Remember, this is a quick-fix, not a long-term solution. Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman, and Matt Spencer are headed for the A's in return(all are minor-leaguers). The Yankees have reached an agreement with slugger Richie Sexson, who was released by the Seattle Mariners a week ago. He is a great addition to New York because he can counter left-handed pitchers. Against lefties this year, he has a .344 batting average with 5 homers. The Mets have won 10 straight, after beating the Reds in 10 innings last night. The final score was 10-8. New York's biggest comeback of the season was sparked by a 2-run homer in the 9th by David Wright. The Mets are now tied for first in the NL East. What an amazing turn-around for the other New York team.

NFL

The Vikings have declined to comment on recent tampering charges filed against them by the Packers. Bob Hagan, the Viking's spokesman, said that Minnesota is "not commenting on the issue. These types of matters are handled by the league". This case is extremely hard for the Packers to prove, and Minnesota knows it. The allegations will most likely not hold up-don't hold me to that, though. Besides, what else are the Vikings supposed to say? I'm not saying I think the Vikings did or didn't inappropriately contact Favre. It was just a predictable response for a case that points to Minnesota's favor. Anyways, I know everyone is tired of this story and so am I. Joe Flacco has agreed to a five-year contract worth up to $30 million dollars with Baltimore. The future franchise quarterback will have a gauranteed $8.75 million dollars. Joe Jurevicius will likely miss the start of the 2008 season for the Cleveland Browns. Those are the headlines for today in the NFL.

NBA

The NBA summer league is in full swing. O.J. Mayo is continuing to struggle at point, while fellow freshman Kevin Love and Arizona stand-out Jerryd Bayless are shining bright. Deron Williams got a huge payday from the Utah Jazz. Williams signed a 3-year deal with the Jazz on Thursday. This was a great move. Keep this guy in Utah. He is the 2nd best point guard in the NBA, just behind MVP-candidate Chris Paul. He has a chance to opt out in his 4th year should he choose to do so. The Clippers have made another edition to the team. Sources say Los Angeles has signed former Golden State Warrior Kelenna Azubiuke. Azubiuke has reportedly received a 3-year deal worth $9 million maximum. He is the 3rd big addition this offseason for the Clippers including Baron Davis and Marcus Camby.

No relevant news in NCAAF or the NHL today. Due to a time constraint, I will have to cut this edition short. Hope you all have enjoyed, and please continue to fanmail me with topics you want discussed. Thanks for reading.

Jerryd Bayless is playing lights out. As far as Mayo goes, with Lowry and Conley already in Memphis, even if they trade one of them Mayo should be the starter at SG anyway.

Enough of this PG crap. He WANTS to be a PG but he's NOT a PG.

July 18, 2008  03:19 PM ET

I agree. He should stick to being a shooting guard.

The Azubuike signing is just an offer sheet - but it looks like the W's won't match. This loss hurts me as a Warriors fan more than the loss of Baron. Kelenna has a lot of potential and I think the Warriors will regret it if they let him go.

BTW: Just a few more hours before I can start working on my daily hangover. Oh, I can't wait!

Someone please clarify for me - Can tampering charges really be filed when at this point he has not been formally reinstated? Or does the fact that he has two years left on his contract mean that he can never talk to anyone for the next two years even if he stays retired?

July 18, 2008  03:53 PM ET

LoveItHateIt, he is still property of the Packers, no matter if he is retired or not. His career is in their hands for the next two years in terms of football. He decides if he plays, the Packers decide where he plays.

haha. Good one.

Thanks for clarifying. I figured it was the latter, but just wasn't sure.
