Greetings fellow Gator haters! And welcome to another edition of "A trip down memory lane," a chronicle of the Florida Gators most embarrasing losses. Today we focus on the 2003 Outback Bowl that pitted the Florida Gators against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The first thing you have to point out about this game is that Iowa dominated the Gators on the ground. Old fashioned smashmouth football right down there throats. Iowa put up 238 yards rushing on Florida, totally embarrasing their defensive unit. But on the other hand Florida was only able to rush for a meager 57 yards on 28 carries.Iowa had 14 rushing 1st downs to Florida's 2. What an embarrassment!! Iowa held the ball for 34:10 and basically owned this game. Iowa RB Russell Fred was the main reason to Iowa's sucess on the ground with his 150 yd and 1 TD performance he sealed the Gators fate. What can you do with a guy that averages 7.1 yards a carry on your D?? This game was definetly one Florida fans want to forget. But I say it was a great day in college football history. Any day that the Gators lose is a great day in college football history. Until we meet again...Keeeep hatin!...Gator hatin that is.
