Are we forgetting someone??? Not one of the many throwdowns that involve baseball awards has even given Alex Rodriguez a single point of interest. He is playing just as good as people like Ian Kinsler or Joe Mauer (another good pick for the MVP) or even Josh Hamilton. Alex Rodriguez is also a shortstop and is a pretty good fielder as well. I hope people can see this blog becuase I really want to get this out to other people that Alex Rodriguez deserves some consideration for being an AL MVP candiate. Does he deserve it right now? I dont know.

A-Rod is hitting .318 right now which is 4th in the AL. That shows that a normal power hitter like him can be versatile and bat for average as well. But he is also 5th in the AL in home runs right now with 20 dingers. So he still has his normal power hitting in him. But he shines in the other averages categories such as OBP and Slugging%. He is second in slugging% in the AL right now with .594 and  5th in the league in On Base Percentage with .398. Those are really good numbers. He has shwon himself to be versatile in all categoires unlik last year in my opinion where he mainly fed on power stats (home runs, RBI's, total bases, etc.)

Also in some of the smaller categories he can be worth mentioning as well. He has 13 stolen bases to his name and has only struck out 62 times for his 20 home runs. He also has 55 runs and 55 RBI's which is a step down from last year but I think some of his other skills and work this year make up for it. Those are still good number and he is on track to score about 80 RBI's and 80 runs this year. This is all he does and I really do think Alex Rodriguez deserves to be an MVP candidate and maybe even the MVP.

Tell me what you think...

I hate the Yankees and A-Rod with all my heart but I do agree he needs to recieve more consideration. You provide all the stats that he has accumalated but what makes it more impressive was he missed a couple weeks and still has done that.

His absence also showed how important he is to teh Yanks Success because when he was gone they were awful but when they came back the offense was rejunvated and they climbed back into the race.

All that being said I think J.D Drew is a bit more deserving because he kept the Sox from falling when Ortiz went out and his team would make the playoffs if the season ended while A-Rods would not.

Heres my MVP list 1. Carlos Quentin( where would the W. Sox be without him)
2. J.D Drew(all the reasons I already stated)
3. A-Rod
4. Josh Hamiliton
5. Kinsler

the last two have great numbers but their home road splits show they are greatly helped by their home park. Plus the Rangers are not a very good team and players on bad teams do noot deserve the MVP.

I am now done.

I will start with the obvious, A-Rod has not been a shortstop for a LONG time now.

I think their are two reasons why people have given up on giving A-Rod credit for what he does in the regular season.....

1) His postseason performances have been horrible at every turn and he is known to perform when his team doesn't need the big performance. You know when they are up 10 to 1 and stuff like that.

2) He does not show the leadership qualities of a star and that is expected in the Bronx. It is the same reason no one bats an eye when Jeter is the starter at the All-Star game evn when his season has been mediocre. Jeter is a leader and A-Rod is NOT. People are getting tired of his act.

Bottom line- Don't shoot the messanger but these seem like the main reasons that a great season from A-Rod will start to fly under the radar more and more. I may be wrong but that is how I see it.

Rodriguez isn't a popular choice for MVP.

He hit 50 home runs last year and this year he is expected to do the same. He isn't doing as good as last year but still very good.

Players like Josh Hamilton and Carlos Quentin are having good years and they are getting a lot more attention because they both weren't that good before this year. A-Rod is always good so people just think he is having a typical A-Rod year and point to the surprise years.

I hope that makes sense to everybody

how can you say that Arod doesnt perform when the team needs him too. Last season he single handedly carried the slumping Yankees on his back so that they had the chance to be in the playoffs at all.

In postseason play he doesnt perform because he tries too hard. Why does he try so hard to get the big hits when he can do it naturally? Because the rest of the team drops like flies in all productive categories so Arod takes it upon himself to make up for the rest of his teams fallacies. As proven when he presses for the big hits, he simply doesnt get them. If the rest of the team got the hits to take pressure off him than we will see a stellar Arod in postseason play.

That being said, Arod shows great leadership as he tries to pick up his team with his bat and glove.
