See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
-U2

Every famous song has it's covers. One of the most proficient cover machines in rock history is U2's legendary "With or Without You". Writing your own cover for the song almost seems a rite of passage for bands nowadays. It's become the quintessential cover song, in my opinion. I love to see the innovative spins put on the song by bands from all genres, ranging from hard rock to emo to alternative to...whatever else. In fact, I love it so much, I've decided to share some of my favorites with you right here:

Finch

Finch: Hard Rock Cover

Finch is a solid hard rock band that recently reunited after a year long hiatus (yay!). I'm not entirely sure when they recorded this cover, but I'm definitely digging it. It's in poor quality, but hey. A good song is a good song, regardless of production.

Breathe Carolina

Breathe Carolina: Screamo Cover

Don't step away because you're afraid of screamo. Trust me; this might be my favorite W.O.W.Y. cover ever. While it's played by a typical screamo band, they do an outstanding job of doing the song justice. 95% of the song is sung anyway, to reassure those dissenters. The 5% that is screamed is actually my favorite part of the song. Its volume is toned down so it's not the annoying roar that gives screamo its name, and the singer croons right over it, effectively putting the gutturals to a minimum. The lines screamed are perfectly timed at that, coming in at the most passionate part of the song.

Keane

Keane: Ambient/Electronic Cover

This is probably the one version that can make U2's very own version look bad. If Breathe Carolina's cover isn't my all time favorite, this one definitely is. I suppose if U2 had made With or Without You in today's day and age, with all the technology that it entails, it would sound something like this. It's mellow, it's modern, and it's got subtle touches throughout that make it every bit as enchanting as the real thing.
