The Darfur genocide is a discrace to everyone, from Darfur to America we all swore long ago that there would never be any more genocide weather it be because of national, ethnical, or religious differences yet its happening today. Arent us americans and other countries supose to help the people that arent being treated fairly and this is no different

Over 400,000 darfurians have been killed by the army, militas, and criminals.2.5 million have fled there homes to live in refugee camps throughout Darfur set up by the UN and other charities in the U.S and also camps in Chad and the Central African Republic. The women are suffering even more, they may not have to fight but there getting rapped by not one but 30 men, now thats just wrong. One day your village can be a safe happy place while the next moment you could be on the run tring to find one of these camps while escaping your own government because your village has been burnt down. All this is caused because of the Arib leadership in there government which wants all the africans to be killed and out of there countrie and our government looks the other way because Darfurian leaders have been giving us little bits of info hear and there about Iran and the rest of the middle east. Instead of focusing on Iraq we should be helping the people that need to be helped so Darfur doesnt become as bad as Germany was during world war two. The US needs to take a stand as we should all because Darfur needs our help and we are one of a few nations with enough money, goods, and machines that can make a difference

Now for a brighter topic, the election. Ill be honest I havent picked and wont pick a party intil im 18 but this year Obamas looking better then McCain. Obama seems like the average american who fights for what we the people belive in. He promises to lower taxes, will try to get more guns off the streets, and pull us out of Iraq. As a 13 year old i find myself pondering over the War in Iraq, I want us out because I dont want to have to fight myself but as ive found out there could be some major consequences for pulling out of Iraq. For one Iran could take over Iraq which would make them stronger and a bigger threat to us. They would have more soliders and engineres to work on projects while having more protection of there prized cities and more space to build lazers, guns, and be better protected for a US attack. Im really seeing McCain differently now but if the election was today and I was 18 I would still vote for Obama

LEts look at this a bit

Obama seems like the average american who fights for what we the people belive in.

-- Hate to break this too you but NO POLITICIAN AT THIS LEVEL HAS ANY IDEA WHAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN GOES THROUGH

not one- not McCain, not Clinton and Definately not Obama

He promises to lower taxes,

-- no, he is on RECORD he will RAISE taxes

will try to get more guns off the streets,

-- really? How does that help? Look at the crime rates of Washington DC and other cities-

Iran could take over Iraq which would make them stronger and a bigger threat to us. They would have more soliders and engineres to work on projects while having more protection of there prized cities and more space to build lazers, guns, and be better protected for a US attack.

-- Go read about the Iran/Iraq war- They fought for over EIGHT YEARS and one could not beat the other- even as beaten down as Iraq is- Iran is not much better as a military.

Im really seeing McCain differently now but if the election was today and I was 18 I would still vote for Obama

glad you can;t vote, sorry much love for you- but how ANYONE sane could vote for Obama escapes me

McCain is NOT my first, second, or even fifth choice but between these two?

Easy pick

David, NY, you're both right about the taxes.

Obama's going to lower it on the middle class and raise it ONLY ON THE TOP FIVE PERCENT OF TAXPAYERS.

<-- supports a flat tax

July 21, 2008  01:48 AM ET

David, you can't spell, by the way... just saying.

July 21, 2008  04:21 AM ET

Iran has a pretty impressive military. Between their knack for reverse-engineering American aircraft to their relatively large, Russian-equipped army, they're like the Wu-Tang Clan. They ain't nothin' to f*** with.

July 21, 2008  08:12 AM ET

David, you do realize that Bush has CUT taxes, during TWO WARS and a RECESSION!? Like them or not, taxes are an essential part of our government, and without them we'd collapse in a matter of weeks.

July 21, 2008  09:17 AM ET

Remember, Just because Obama says one thing, doesn't mean he's gonna do it. He's brainwashed many into "change." With no LOGICAL plan (he doesn't have one) Its impossible!!!! I think its great for young people like you and me to have such politcal thoughts...but I have to say "all little boys and girls grow up democrats until they earn their first dollar"-JAUbin the quote goes something like that.

Nice quote Carolinagirl

July 21, 2008  09:42 AM ET

you still have a lot to learn about politics and promises

July 21, 2008  10:25 AM ET

That quote is taken straight from Freaks and Geeks!

Lifer: A Special Boy |

-- Lifer do you know that RONALD REAGAN Put the TWO LARGEST TAX INCREASES in HISTORY on the US Taxpayer?

and yet raised the biggest peacetime boom in US history that continues until Clinton?

Its not the TAXES -its HOW you slam the taxes

Yes the RICH pay the taxes and BENIFIT from the tax breaks

But as the story goes how many time have you got a job from a man making min wage? How many Jobs have the bottom 10% created?

July 21, 2008  11:52 AM ET

I really don't understand politics so this blog isn't for me. haha

July 21, 2008  02:17 PM ET

its all about trickle-down economics

July 21, 2008  08:37 PM ET

David, you call raising a national debt that won't be paid off until well after I'm interred in the local cemetery an "economic boom"? False promises.

July 21, 2008  08:37 PM ET

Which doesn't work. Remember Herbert Hoover's administration?

First, I'd just like to say thank you to Ny for posting something in here and taking advantage of his writing privileges. While I do not necessarily agree with this viewpoint -- most any politician is capable of saying what the electorate wants and I am not sure that Obama offers any real, substantive change on that fact (you can see my post in this group, "Real change... really?", to see my thoughts on that) any more so than McCain or any of the other lifers who were ever in this race...

I do agree, though, that the continuing conflict in Darfur is being far too neglected by Washington leaders. This is one place where Obama, if he is sincere about change, could make a real difference. But, alas, both Obama AND McCain are increasingly shirking their legislative duties to traipse and stump across the country in advance of the conventions...

Interesting thoughts... and a note to ALL Spin Room members -- you have the ability to write here whenever you want. Take umbrage to something written here? Refute it with some intelligent and cohesive argumentation in a new post... we welcome ALL viewpoints around here...

I'm so confused. How has the Darfur killing rate been at 40,000 for around 2 years? Unless the killing has stopped, we're getting false numbers.
