The Daily Hangover(7/21/08)

Here we go again. Remember, this is only a weekday thing, I will not be doing it on the weekends. Thanks for all the fanmail requests about topics to be discussed, please continue to do this. Let's get to work.

MLB

Huge series in the NL East this week. Tied at the top are the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets. The key is, the Marlins are only a half game out of both of these teams. The three-game series starts tomorrow night. This is the tightest division in baseball, and if Florida plays their cards right and gets lucky, they could be sitting atop the NL East in a week. In my opinion, the Mets get the better of the series and the NL East title. In terms of roster, New York is superior. Plus they have major momentum right now. Billy Wagner doesn't need an MRI on his left shoulder, reports say. The Mets closer has been huge in New York's comeback in the division. The Angels have swept the Red Sox, showing why they have the best record in the MLB. The L.A. Dodgers tied the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West with a win in Arizona. The final score was 5-1.

NFL

Now on to Pro Football. A big trade yesterday. The Washington Redskins acquired Jason Taylor, 2006 Defensive MVP, from the Miami Dolphins. The Fins get a 2nd-round draft pick in the 2009 draft and a 6th-round draft pick in the 2010 draft. The deal happened 9 hours after Washington DE Phillip Daniels suffered a season-ending injury in practice. I think the Redskins should be arrested for stealing. A 6-time Pro-Bowler who you know you can get a solid performance out of for the next 3 years or two draft picks in 2 different years. Washington definitely got the best of this one. Jeremy Shockey is headed for New Orleans. The Saints acquired Shockey from the Giants for a 2nd and 5th-round draft pick in 2009. I think both teams benefit, but it is hard to tell who got the better of the deal. Shockey was on the down part of his career when he had a season-ending injury last year. Two top 5-round draft picks in the same year can be huge. Again, hard to tell who came out with the best deal. The no. 2 pick in this year's NFL draft has agreed to a 6-year deal with St. Louis. Chris Long is a Defensive End for the Rams. That is all the major news here.

NBA

The Celtics are making sure Eddie House and Tony Allen don't follow James Posey out of Boston. Danny Ainge hasn't been specific on details, but sources say both players will receive over $2 million next season. More than 16,000 people in Oklahoma City signed up for season tickets to see the newly transported team play. The list has only been out 16 days. The New Jersey Nets have acquired Orlando Magic guard Keyon Dooling. Dooling will reportedly receive a 3-year, $3 million dollar deal.

As always, thanks for reading and please continue to request topics to be discussed. I look forward to seeing everyone in tomorrow's edition. Until then.

I am happy about the Shockey trade. The Giants needed to get rid of him. He's a talent but he was far too disruptive.

Good blog. Keep them comin'.

I am glad that Taylor went to the Redskins. Now I'm not worried about the Packers trading him for Brett Favre.

Thanks, didn't know about Shockey, surprised that finally got done, though I did expect him to go somewhere,I'm sure he'll love it down there in N'Awlins with Drew Brees, and Taylor makes the 'skins defense pretty good.

Oh,and, couldn't they have thought of a better name then the Oklahoma City Thunder? Yuck :p
