Perhaps this is premature, perhaps I am just an overexcited homer fan.  Okay, I KNOW I am an overexcited homerfan.  But the Yankess recent success can't be denied, and neither can their success after the All-Star break year after year. Bottom line, the men in pinstripes look to be at it again.

They still have a ways to go.  Both the Red Sox and the Rays are in front of them in the division, and the Twins are also in front of them in the Wild Card.  There are major questions in the rotation and many injuries to key players (Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui, Johnny Damon, Chien-Mein Wang, Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy...).  The hitting has been largely untimely and the bullpen, though strong since Joba joined the rotation, is not the best on paper.

But yet again the Yanks are coming back.  That is my personal certainy. It goes beyond their current short winning streak against current playoff contenders.  It's that Robbie Cano is batting .349 this month, once againbusting out of his first half slump.  He's now another hot bat in their lineup.  It's the fact the A-Rod would be once again the leading MVP candidate had he not missed significant time in the early parts of the year.  Joba Chamberlain has made a successful transition into starter, Pettite is as good as ever, and Mike Mussina has learned to pitch terrific with his limited velocity.  There's also the fact that the bullpen has been strong and consistent without Joba, and Rivera is as good as ever.  He has only given up one run in a save situation this year!

Bottom line, the Yanks are hot again.  They also have many series left against both the Red Sox and the Rays, and they have played well against both teams thus far this year.  They are only four games out, which is much closer than they usually are at this point in the year.  With the way they've been playing over the past two or three weeks, they look like they are on their second half run again. Hughes, Kennedy, and Wang will all be back before the end of the year during the final kick that puts the Yanks into the playoffs.  Things look good for the Yanks.  Rememer, this time last year they were 8.5 back and came back to make the playoffs.  It will happen again.
