I asked bloggers around the Web whom I admire to answer the following question: Why do you blog?

Michael David Smith blogs prolifically for both AOL Fanhouse and Pro Football Talk.com

I blog because it's my job, and it's the best job I've ever had. In past jobs, my bosses have thought I was lazy, but it was really just that I didn't care. I do care about blogging, and although I've been called many things in my time as a blogger, "lazy" is not one of them.

In "Wonder Boys," the main character, Grady Tripp, is asked why he was writing his novel, which has reached 2,611 pages. He answers, "I couldn't stop." I often feel the same way about blogging, but while Grady Tripp had come to feel burdened by his novel, I feel invigorated by blogging. I've been blogging at FanHouse for nearly two years, and there has never once been a day when I didn't wake up wanting to blog.

I can remember the very first time I encountered a blog (it was called a "web log"), and the sense of awe I felt about how wonderfully simple it was: A person could just write what he wanted to write, link where he wanted to link, and instantly publish it for the world to see. I knew this was something I wanted to read, and something I wanted to try for myself. That was almost 10 years ago, and I'm still in awe that I get to spend most of my waking hours blogging and reading blogs. There's nothing I'd rather do.

I hope our own Wonder Boy doesn't have this problem.

It's Pete remember, he who posts LTLs at 3:30pm. It's probably character 2510.

I remember my first blog. After lurking for several months I worked up the nerve to sign up and start posting. I didn't realize that everyone had already moved on to a new post, so my first post was lost in space, so to speak. I regrouped and tried again the next day, to better results.

unless you mean Abby Normal.

Going back to the 5 at 12, I just read the Chang article. If that was supposed to be in some way humorous, it's lost on me. It sounded like a whining, crying baby wanting the lollypop or cookie just taken from it by a sibling or parent.
