Hey everyone, I have decided to make another blog about analysing scorers as overall players. Here you can view the first one at this link.
http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/218836
I got messages from alot of people saying I should make another blog, but this time with a little twist to it. So I am making a blog this time about analysing the top under 20 point scorers in the league. For the sake of fairness, I am leaving out Andre Iguodala, who averaged 19.9 points per game and Josh Howard, who also averaged 19.9 points per game. I am also leaving out players who averaged 20 points last season but couldn't this season for a variety of reasons. So here's the list
I made.
1. Brandon Roy-Brandon Roy averaged 19.1 points per game this season. He showed great range on his jump shot and has a great ability to get to the rim. He is also a good passer, averaging 5.7 assists per game, and a solid defender as well. The best part is, he's only been in the league for 2 years, so he's only gonna get better now. Soon, he won't make this list since he'll have jumped up his scoring alot. So for all this, I give Brandon an A. Good job Brandon!
2. Deron Williams-Deron Williams averaged 18.8 points per game this season, while showing he was a good dunker and at times lit up from beyond the arc, but was overall always consistent. Another key factor was the fact he averaged 10.5 assists per game, and was 3rd in the league in assisting in an unusually high individual player assisting season. Another key fact about him that I like is his shooting efficiency. This year he shot 40% from the 3 point line and 51% overall, which is very impressive for a point guard, only topped by Steve Nash this year. His shooting efficiency, his overall scoring ability, and his amazing passing ability has even lead to him being known as the Dunking Steve Nash, also as they are both 6'3. He is very big for a point guard at 210 pounds, but still has great quickness and good jumping, able to dunk the ball frequently. His only weakness is he at times will throw the ball away too much, averaging 3.4 turnovers per game, tied with Lebron James for 4th in the league this season. So for all this, I give Deron Williams an A-. If you can lose the ball less, Deron, I will give you an A!
3. Chris Kaman-Chris Kaman averaged 15.6 points per game this year. Even though he was having a breakthrough season, he missed 28 games due to injury this season. However, his overall statistics were impressive, averaging 12.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks, both good for 3rd in the league. His offensive skill improved alot this season, and he showed a wide array of post moves. However, during the second half of the season, partly due to injury, he began fading away and his stats dropped from 16.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks. He was still a dominant force however overall in the games he played. For all this, I give him an A-. If he hadn't missed so many games, I would have given him an A, as he was a great player this season...
4. Lamarcus Aldridge-Lamarcus Aldridge averaged 17.6 points per game. He proved his great ability to score and he was a good rebounder this season also, averaging 7.5 rebounds per game, and 1.2 blocks per game. He was one of the main candidates for NBA most improved player of the year this season, and proved he can be a very important part of the team when they make a playoff run in the future with Greg Oden. However, he is somewhat soft and complacent on the rebounds, not grabbing as much as he could. That coupled with his average, maybe below average post defense, has made me give him a B+. He'll improve though and will get an A maybe in the future.
5. Tony Parker-Tony delivered another outstanding season with the Spurs, averaging 18.8 points on 50% shooting, amazing considering he is a point guard. He can score well, but is also extremely good at getting the ball into the hand of superstars Manu Ginobli and Tim Duncan, who can score easier due to his playmaking abilities. He has averaged nearly 7 assists per game this season despite the fact he is sharing the role of the offense with Ginobli. He plays an unselfish game but can still score alot, and plays very good defense. His quick driving ability completely destroyed the Suns in game 3 of the Playoffs this year and overall in the whole Playoffs. He was a great player this year and has won the Finals MVP before last year. There is nothing I can find anything to criticize him about, so I give him an A! Good job TP!
6. Mike Dunleavy Jr.-Dunleavy averaged 19.1 points per game, and proved this year he had alot of talent. He lead the Pacers along with Danny Granger, and showed his immense talent many times, including recording a career high 36 points twice in this season, and not missing a single game. He played Shooting Guard and Small Forward this season, but could not prove his ability of passing or rebounding respectively. He averaged 5 rebounds and 3 assists, and at 6'9, he should average more rebounds atleast. However, he still plays good defense and has a great 3 point shot, shooting 43% from beyond the arc. For all this, I give Dunleavy an A-.
7. Hedo Turkoglu-Turkoglu averaged 19.5 points per game while continuing to show his amazing 3 point shooting while also driving to the lane and to some extent running the Magic offense. He shot 40% from beyond the arc and averaged 5 assists and 6 rebounds. His overall good play won him the NBA most improved player this season. So for all his accomplishments, I give him an A. Good job Hedo.
8. Gerald Wallace-Wallace averaged 19.4 points per game, but missed quite a few games with a concussion this season. He proved he is a good stealer, averaging 2.1 steals per game, but was a bit of a drop on the blocks, falling from 2.1 blocks a few years ago to 0.9 this year. However, he had a greatly improved jump shot and averaged 6 rebounds, still a somewhat drop from the 7.5 rebounds he used to average a few years ago. He is still a good player, but he needs to learn to stay off the injuries. For all this, I give him an A-.
So this is my list of players under 20 points. Here is the players and their scores.
1. Brandon Roy A
2. Deron Williams A
3. Chris Kaman A-
4. Lamarcus Aldridge B+
5. Tony Parker A
6. Mike Dunleavy Jr. A-
7. Hedo Turkoglu A
8. Gerald Wallace A-
So I was a bit easier on the grading this time, but I still got to the point across. So thanks for reading this blog, and please comment so I can get feedback from you people. Thanks and come again!

Good Blog.
Not sure if Aldridge deserves that 'plus' beside his B. He hasn't stepped up like he should.
And Dunleavy is more of a B- than an A-. He's one-dimensional on offense and he's good (but far from 'great') on defence.

Good job. You've been studying. Also a players role can often have it's effect on his scoring. For example, Brandon Roy's scoring may drop off somewhat this year with Greg in the lineup, but his assists should go up.

I also see Lamarcus Aldridge's numbers dropping since they won't always pass to him in the post anymore...but he'll still be effective.

Accurate Mike Dunleavy information except he scored 36 five times, twice against the Knicks, and he doesn't get as many defensive boards because of the teams focus on getting out in transition. I would have focused on how Dunleavy's scoring average went up as the season progressed, Nov 15.9, Dec 18.1, Jan 19.1, Feb 18.4, Mar 21.6, and Apr 22.9, If you look at the game breakdowns he really had a different season after the all-star break.

Good post ahung,
As an "expert" on the Blazers, I'd say that Roy's scoring will be down while his assist will be up next year. He won't have to be the primary scorer anymore.
Adridge needs to get stronger. He grabs more rebounds than his stat shows, but he looses them because he's not strong enough to hold onto the ball. The Blazers are are planning to hire Barry Bonds to be the new trainer as we speak. But I do see Aldridge scoring more while rebounding about the same. He can move further out for his jumpers while Oden holds the post to rebound and get garbage points. Kind of like Shaq and Stoudamire combo...as least in the hopes of many Blazers fans.
Call me crazy, but I would take Deron Williams over Chris Paul due to size and defense. But I love Paul's game.
I need to watch the Clippers more often, because I don't know what the fuss is all about over Caveman, uh, I man Kaman.
Hedo is becoming a stud in Orlando and living off Howards double teams.
Wallace, like TJ Ford, should consider quitting the game due to their risky health histories.
Odenator...I'm…
