Since Keeper is out on a well deserved vacation from FN, I, thebasketballguru will have you covered on this ver Canadian edition of The SoccerNation Report as most of the attention in the North American soccer world is directed to Toronto and the MLS All-Start game against West Ham at BMO Field.
The MLS All-Star Game Takes Place Tonight
Tonight at 7 PM EST, the MLS best face off against an EPL team in the annual all-star game. This game will be very special as it is taking place in the most soccer mad city in the MLS, Toronto, and there is plenty of Canadian content for the FC supporters to cheer on. Jim Brennan, a Toronto native and FC member is in, Paul Onstad and Dwayn De Rosario will also be representing the great country of Canada tonight. The MLS is coming in riding a four game winning streak in the All-Star game against foreign opponents and it looks like they will continue their streak as they are playing a middle level EPL team in West Ham.
MLS Expansion To Vancouver and Montreal Disscused at MLS Press Conference
At the MLS' pre All-Star game press conference, league officials discussed the possibilities of Canada's two USL teams, the Vancouver Whitecaps, and the Montreal Impact, the winners of the Canadian Club Championship and Canada's representative in the CONCACAF Champions League, as potential expansion teams. It was also announced that the owners of these two teams are expected to make huge announcements in the coming weeks so it looks like there will be three Canadian teams in the MLS, which is a great move as soccer is the one of the most popular sports in Canada and is covered quite well on our major sports networks. This will be great for the revenue for the league as these teams already have great stadiums and lots of immigrants which means large attendance.
That is the Report for Thurdsday, July 24, 2008. Enjoy the All-Star game folks
