First off, let me say that Rod Smith is one of my favorite football players of all time. Sadly, all I hear from people is that he won't get into the Hall of Fame either because he doesn't have the numbers or because he plays in Denver. We all know that the Hall of Fame has a disdain for Denver: the winningest franchise in NFL history, more AFC Championships than any other team, and only one HOF'er? C'mon guys. I know it'll be two when Zimmerman goes in, but he played 7 years in Minnesota and only 5 in Denver, so Elway remains the only one who played the bulk of his career in Denver. To those that say that Smith doesn't have the numbers, though, you are sadly mistaken.
Consider these stats:
Rod Smith
849 Receptions, 11,389 yards, 13.4 Yards Per Catch, 68 TD, 2 Super Bowl titles, 12 years (not counting 2007, which he missed with a hip injury.)
Michael Irvin
750 Receptions, 11,904 yards, 15.9 Yards Per Catch, 65 TD, 3 Super Bowl titles, 12 years
Irvin was inducted into the Hall in his 3rd year of eligibility. We all know that his character when he was playing was questionable at best. The way I see it, if character counts in Hall of Fame consideration, which it should, Rod Smith should get in on the 1st ballot. Rod Smith, Hall Of Fame 2013!

Report Offensive CommentIrvin got more love than Smith... He may have been faster, but I wouldn't call him a better receiver. He played in Dallas, so he was made out to be a lot better than he was.

Report Offensive CommentAnd Michael Irvin was the #11 overall pick out of Miami, FL. Rod Smith was undrafted.
