I’m sure you all know by now and this is old news about the Boss. Rick Ross is a Miami rapper who blasted on the seen with "Hustlin" a single from hit chart topping album "Port of Miami". Rick Ross's music is based by in large part on the world famous Miami drug trade. Nothing new right? A lot of hip hop is saturated with claims of dealing drugs and violence and some actually have lived it.
Now there where rumors on the streets and in the hip hop world for quite some time that Rick Ross at one point in time had actually been a C.O (Correctional Officer). Which would go against his whole drug kingpin facade. When asked about the claims Rick Ross born "William Leonard Roberts" adamantly denied the claims. When photos where released of a young Roberts in a C.O uniform he claimed "it was a fake picture by fake people on the internet for fake people to look at a believe". A couple of days later a records were release by The Smoking Gun that he was infact a C.O and his Social Security Numbers matched. Ross has yet to release a statement but I think old dude got caught in a huge lie.
Now whats the problem with this? Its entertainment right? Personally I never bought into his phony act and never liked his music. He has some nice production Ill give him that. His first song he claims " I know Pablo, Noriega, the real Noriega. He owe me a hundred favors".Refering to former Panamanian general and the military dictator of Panama who is imprisoned for cocaine trafficking, racketeering, and money laundering . Now I understand alot of things in rap are said in jest but to make this claim just seemed ridiculous to hear. He might as well said "Superman That Hoe".
Now I’m sure if you where in fact an actual drug kingpin why rap. The money has to be better than what hip hop artist are getting. To go legit? Well why discuss your previous crimes on a record in which millions of people will hear? My biggest issue with this overall situation is that fact he lied. Why lie about something that can be so easily proven? I know there are plenty of hip hop artist out there who are doing the same thing. Entertaining to get a buck and I cant hate that.
The reason I made this blog is 1. because Im bored and 2.is to see what you all think about this situation. Personally I think he is wack an always has been. Never bought any of his music nor will I. OPINONS????????

This doesn't surprise me. Ross does come across like a fake. Storytelling is one thing but there has to be at least a kernel of truth in there to be believable. Plus, you can't rap about being a drug kingpen and have been a C.O. in a former life. That would catch up to you...as it has in that case.

Ironically enough I asked myself that same question. Rappers say they sold or sell drugs to finance their records. Some really are heavy in the streets, but if Ross was as high profile as he says I did wonder why rap? If you that deep, your money has to be better then what little kernels you can get from the rap game.

Report Offensive CommentThats what I'm saying. The these rappers are not making a lot of money. Unless you know how to hustle that money and invest like Jay and 50 has.

Report Offensive CommentI think this situation is really stupid. Why rap and say all of this, when you were AGAINST this earlier? Doesn't make sense to me.

Report Offensive CommentEven rappers say that the money in the rap game isn't that great. That's why they are now getting into movies, and clothing so they can get more cash. It pays to do other things other than rapping.

Report Offensive CommentWell Ross will never get to do any of that. The hood will not tolerate this. The same folks who live and die by "stop snitching" which in itself would be a good debate

Report Offensive CommentIf he admitted it outright, he proably would have gotten away with it relatively unscathed. It's the fact taht he has vehemently denied it, will get him into some deep sh1t with the hip-hop communtiy.

Report Offensive CommentYa know, if he had just admitted he was a CO and said that that's where he started in the drug dealin' business. He brought the s*it to his inmates or he met up with some that got him started. It woulda made way more sense and wouldn't have brought so much negative attention.
And I don't think it's that people truly cared he was a CO, I think it was more that he lied outright that he had never been a CO.

Report Offensive CommentGood point BigBen68. If he was one of those CO's that brought it into the prison, then hell yes that would be accepted.
It's wrong morally, but yeah it would have been accepted.

Report Offensive CommentBut that would be just to extenuate the Drug Lord facade (or possible facade) that he carries. I have no beef with him being a CO. I have his first album, Port of Miami, but didn't take the time or precious dough to get his second.
