The San Antonio Spurs are a Dinasty. Period. No Questions asked.
Their four NBA Championships in 9 years is an impressive feat, especially in the modern world of sports where players change teams more often then bandwagon fans change teams. After their latest championship the Spurs are now on the same level of greatness as MJ's Bulls, Byrd's Celtics and the Lakers. But do the Spurs get the respect they deserve? No. Most fans look right past the Spurs and look at them as just another team who experienced a few years of very good play. The Spurs have done far more then that. They have excelled in the NBA, by perfecting their game to a degree of excellence that is unmatched by any other sports franchise.
When people look back on the Spurs they will see the four championships and hopefully they will see San Antonio as a dynasty. Unfortunately so far most people are pushing the Spurs aside, and ignoring their dynasty status.

You cannot be a dynasty if:
1. you do not win consecutive championships
2. another team had your number in between some of your championships
3. another team had their own, much more legit dynasty in between your championships
4. you did not have the same core for the years you are claiming as the dynasty (the first spurs 'ship was completely different except for Tim, and the second didn't have manu or tony play nearly as big of a role)
It doesn't help that:
1. one of your championships you're trying to use to bolster your status happened in a strike-shortened season in which you were one of only 2 teams to even hold practices before the season, and then you're lucky enough to get one of the lowest seeds out of the east.
2. you did not have to face all of the best opponents in the league in your playoff run (the s.a. vs. suns series was the championship, and no Dallas)
3. you played the worst finals opponent ever, including the worst coach ever, hailing from the worst division ever.
4. the commissioner goes out of his way to ignore his right to interpret, and therefore insure that injustice is done.
Is what the Spurs have done impressive? Yes. Do I wish my team had that kinda success? Heck yes! Are they close to a dynasty? Pretty close. But is it a dynasty? NO!
Ever listen to Dan Patrick or read any of the writers who work for SI or ESPN? They all agree with me. So please to just assume that this is a dysnasty and that any doubt is ridiculous and disrespectful.
