This being Hall of Fame week (and does it not make Redskin fans happy???), I'm sure we'll run across blogs this week about how this guy shouldn't be in or that guy oughta be in, blah, blah, blah...
Well, anyway, the NFL Network tonight (Tuesday) runs their "Top 10" show @ 8 Eastern on that very topic. Specifically, the "Top 10 players who should be in the HOF". While I can't come up with 10, I can give a list of those who I feel should be worthy of being in Canton. So, here goes...
1) Harold Carmichael
Yeah, I know. A Redskins fan, touting an Eagle for the HOF?? I'll stand here and say it: study those old NFL Films of him and Pat Fischer, and tell me I'm wrong. Those weren't battles those two had; those were wars!!! And here's the deal, too: Carmichael held the mark for catching at least 1 pass in (I believe) 130-some games...before Art Monk or Jerry Rice got around to bettering that mark. Yet, it seems the Philly crowd is silent on this. Hmmmmm...
2) Tom Jackson
OK, so it's in the hands of the Veterans' Committee now. But still, the man was an important part of the "Orange Crush" defense of the Broncos back in the day (meaning the '70s and '80s). Again, just as in the previous case, I find it puzzling Denver fans aren't screaming bloody murder about this. You've taken it for granted that just because he's a "talking head" for ESPN, that's enough to plead the case for him. Don't work that way, kiddies.
Well, that's all I could come up with at the moment. Since I'm writing a blog this week on the "HTTR" site on Art and Darrell, I deliberately left off more than a few Skins worthy of HOF inclusion on this one.
I may have missed some you all thought of, so that's why there's a comments section. Let the debate begin...
