Hello and welcome to the SoccerNation Report. Today is my last day of summer seeing as how I go back to school tomorrow. Yeah, it sucks but don't worry. I'm going to try to still post the report in the mornings like usual. And one more thing before I get started.
Keane to play with Torres- You knew that I had to do this sometime so here it is. In case you haven't heard Robbie Keane has joined Liverpool as the second striker to Fernando Torres. Keane and Torres failed to see anytime together in Liverpool's 0-0 draw to Villareal (I guess Marcos Senna played the whole game). Keane played the first half and missed the best chance of the match. Torres saw his first action since scoring the winning goal of Euro 2008. He only played 20 minutes. It's believed that the two may play together against Rangers this Saturday in a friendly. As a Liverpool fan, I absolutely love the move. We now have two good goalscorers that can take the load off of Gerrard. Then you think about what Kuyt will give you and then you have Babel playing after the Olympics. The attack will be pretty good and I'm ready to see what happens. I think this team may just be the one that finally brings back the title. But they have to contend with Chelsea and Man. U first.
English Midfielders- David Bentley will move to Tottenham from Blackburn and Gareth Barry will stay put at Aston Villa at the moment. Villa really has no choice right now because Liverpool just doesn't have the money right now. But come winter I can see him moving if the side isn't playing well. As for Bentley, I think it is a good move for Juande Ramos. He's really been making moves and trying to improve the team and I think they will be tons better this year. If they could have kept Keane it would have been better. But Tottenham will be a threat no doubt about it. All of the big four better watch out because they WILL break the top 4 sometime in the next 3 seasons as longs as Ramos is there. Good luck to both Englishmen. They need to develop well for the National Team.
UCL Results- Just a couple scores and then a few thoughts about the games.
Rangers 0, Kaunas 0. The home side failed to do anything and they are in grave danger as they travel to Lithuania on August 5th. They have tons of injuries and if Kaunas can hold on for PK's then anything can happen.
Fenerbache 2, MTK Budapest 0. The Hungarian champions put up a decent fight but one of last year's Quarter-Finalists got the job done. No surprise here. I think that if they can get through the Qualifying Rounds then they will be very tough to beat and they can make another deep run.
Today's Games- If you have that pass on UEFA.com then you are pretty lucky. You can watch up to 36 games. One of the teams playing will be Manchester City. That should be interesting to watch, maybe.
As always thanks and I hope you liked it. It's been Keeper and I'm out.
