Lakers#1: Roll Tide

Okay in this blog I'm going to discuss some of the big moves made this offseason. So let's get started.

Elton Brand signs 5 year 80 million dollar contract with the 76ers.

This deal makes the 76ers a contender in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers add a career 20 and 10 player. To go along with his offensvie sill, he is also a very solid defensive player. This is something the 76ers were missing last season. That dominate post player, and with that they might could have knocked off the Pistons last season. Last season Brand only played in 8 games, but I don't see his health being an issue. The previous three seasons he averaged 80 games per season. This is a great sign for the 76ers. To me this puts them to a top 4 or 5 team in the East.

Baron Davis signs 5 year 65 million dollar deal with the Clippers

The Clippers bring in a 22 Point and 7 assist guy to there lineup. Even with Elton Brand leaving for Philly, Davis stayed true to his word and signed with the hometown Clippers. With Brand gone Baron Davis ushers in a new Era of Clipper Basketball. With just Davis I didn't think they were good enough to make it to the playoffs but does this next deal put them over the hump?

Nuggets trade Marcus Camby to the Clippers for a 2nd round pick.

Another good move by the Clippers. They were very active this offseason, and the deal to bring in Marcus Camby gives them a very good frontcourt with him and Chris Kaman. This deal also can assure you that the Denver Nuggets have no intention of playing defense this season at all. Marcus Camby brings in a 4 time member of the All Defensive team, and also the 2006-2007 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He also brings to the table rebounding. He is a very good rebounder. He was 2nd in rebounds per game last season with 13.1. I think this deal puts the Clippers right in there in the playoff race.

Marcus Williams traded to the Warriors for a 1st Round Pick

Marcus Williams was brought in by the Warriors to join the backcourt with Monta Ellis and fill in the loss of Baron Davis. He is not on Davis' level, but he is an up and coming Point Guard in the NBA. He is finally going to get his shot, after sitting behind Jason Kidd and Devin Harris his first two years. In his per 36 minutes stats he averages 14 points and 7 assists. That is not bad, and he will continue to improve, and I think he's going to have a very good season for the Warriors.

Corey Maggette signs 5 year 50 million dollar deal eal with Warriors

The Warriors have been busy this offseason after losing Baron Davis. They traded for Marcus Williams and signed Restricted Free Agent Ronny Turiaf. The Warriors did everything they could to keep themselves in playoff contention. They bring in a guy that averaged 22 Points and 5 Rebounds a game last season. He is a very good player, and with losing Baron Davis will pick up a lot of the scoring load.

Nets trade Richard Jefferson to the Bucks for Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons

The Centerpiece of this deal is Richard Jefferson. He brings the Bucks a very talented scorer to take some of the load off of Michael Redd. It also gives the Bucks a very good trio of Redd, Williams, and Jefferson. Then on the other side of the trade the Nets bring in a young big man in Yi Jianlian, and a guy who could start if needed Bobby Simmons. In 04-05 as a starter Bobby Simmons averaged over 16 points a game. Does this trade make the Bucks a playoff team? I don't think so. The lack of an inside game is going to cost them, and they will miss out on the postseason.

Pacers trade Jermaine O'Neal to the Raptors for TJ Ford, Rasho Nesterovic, and the draft rights to Roy Hibbert.

Jermaine O'Neal gives the Raptors a very good frontcourt as he is alongside Chris Bosh. The one question mark, and it's a big one, is if O'Neal can stay healthy. He hasn't played in 70 games since 2003-2004. He has averaged just 54 games a season over the last three years. If he can stay healthy then the Raptors ae going to be a tough team to beat. Then the Pacers bring in TJ Ford who is going to compete for the starting PG position, Rasho Nesterovic who can come off the bench and do well, and then the draft rights to 7'2 Roy Hibbert who is a good player.

I will not discuss the Artest trade because I have a separate blog on that. If any more deals go down I will be sure to add them to this. Thanks for reading.
