Matt Holliday:

Matt Holliday is simply the best player you've never heard about. At the age of 27 he is simply shocking fans around the league. Matt Holliday was drafted in 1998 in the 7th round. You would think a player drafted in 98, would of made an impact in the league by now. Not Matt Holliday, his time in the minors were time well spent. He came up in the 04 season surprising many by hitting .290. That you could say was a "dissapointing" season for Matt Holliday because his numbers shot up after that. In the 05 season he hit .307 with 19 jacks and drove in 87 rbi's. Were the first two solid seasons good enough to get him noticed around the league? Of course not. His 06 season was nothing less than astonishing. He hit .326 w/ 34 jacks and 114 rbi's. You would think this kid would be noticed. Not so fast, playing in Colorado, few are noticed. Even the career .333 hitter Todd Helton isn't as noticed as he should be. The Rockies had a 76-86 record and that could be a reason why his astonishing numbers went unnoticed.

Now in 07, the Rockies are in the hunt, 37-34 and only 4.5 out of the division lead. The negative for Matt Holliday you ask? Matt Holliday is still not being noticed as a star. With his NL leading .366 average, fans are starting to see this kid is no joke. It's not easy these days for a player like Matt Holliday to be noticed. With studs in this game such as Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, (the now hot)Ryan Howard and many more, popularity is hard to come by. Of course fans are watching every record chasing AB for Barry Bonds, it's hard to become noticed. So when will Matt Holliday get his chance? Possibly with the series against the oh so popular New York Yankees. Love them, or hate them, they are always in the spotlight. Colorado averages about 20,000 a game. They will sell out every game this series. Do you think Matt Holliday runs away from the spotlight? Not at all, he's 3-6 with a towering HR, and 4 RBI's. Not to mention Colorado has won both games.

Matt Holliday continues to surprise unknowing fans across the league. With his solid defense, his hustle on every play, and his amazing bat it's got to become difficult not to notice this kid. Well I wish that was the case. Lets run down his stats. .366 13 Hr's 57 rbi's and 45 runs. Not to mention his OBP is over .400. So yeah, he's leading in All Star Voting for OF's right? WRONG. The leader is Carlos Beltran?! Yes the same Beltran that's hitting .268. He's also behind players like Barry Bonds, (yeah I know all about the race for the HR record, but come on)  and Andrew Jones a .202 hitter. Sure players like Soriano and Griffey deserve it, but at the expense of Matt Holliday. Check the stats for yourself, they dont lie.

As a huge baseball fan, I always took notice to players like Matt Holliday. Is it his fault Colorado isn't a big market team like my New York Yankees, or teams like the Red Sox and the Mets? If he was a Yank, would he be noticed? In my opinion, he would be without a problem. To me, that's a huge problem in Major League Baseball. Players like Matt Holliday, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, and Adrian Gonzales go unnoticed because of the teams they play for. Yes, I said Adrian Gonzales, many I don't expect you to know. Just check his stats.

So a guy that's hitting .366 and .405 at home is behind players in the All Star Voting that's hitting .202. It makes a lot of sense right? Just because the Braves play on TBS and have become a huge favorite with people under the age of 21, should that give Andrew Jones a spot in the ASG? No it shouldn't. The point is, do what I'm about to do, go vote for Matt Holliday and give that kid a spot in the ASG. If you don't, you'll be sorry. He only has 2 more arbitration years left. Most might not understand what that means. His agent is Scott Boras. So to most MLB fans they know he's going to want money, BIG MONEY. That means soon he'll be on my hated Yankees making MILLIONS (atleast I hope).
