Yao recently came out and said that he felt worried with the arrival of Ron Artest to Houston, which truly has ticked off a lot of people.
Now Yao, shut up. Please, leave the guy alone. Even I'm Pistons fan, and I've forgiven and forgotten what happened a few years back. Ron Artest is a contreversial player but give him some credit, after all, he has had a pretty clean record these last few years. Yao saying what he said won't really help the team "chemistry", he is so worried about. By the way, controlling Artest is absolutely none of Yao's business, nobody's asking to control him that's Rick Adelman and the governement's responsability, not his, he just has to play with him, discuss the plays and say hi and bye, before and after games, he doesn't need to be his friend, just an acquaintance.
When I first heard about Artest going to Houston, my first thoughts were "Wow, Houston is without a doubt a contender now." And that's what everyone should've been thinking, including Yao. Is there some truth into what Yao is saying? Sure, he's a contreversial player and even if you're thoughts are "Wow this guy is going to mess up our team chemistry", you shouldn't come out saying that, that's stupid and disrespectful.
But Yao's disrespect didn't end there, he then goes to talk about Artest's fighting problems, c'mon Yao, be serious, you should never ever do that in the public, even if he's not on your team, be a bit respectful, focus on getting China a single win in the Olympics instead of bashing on the only chance you might have of becoming a legit contender.
So is there something else that's worrying you, Yao? Is it really about team chemistry? Or is there someting else? Are you sacred that Ron might surpass you and replace you at some point?
Yao, in my opinion, looks scared not worried or he's just being stupid, but the first option seems more legit. Yao might be scared that the arrival of Artest will mean he'll lose attention off and on the court. Yao's averages will most probably go down as will McGrady's because of the arrival of a third scoring option. Ron Artest might start taking more shots than Yao or McGrady, and if either one, and probably both some time during the season, injures himself, guess who'll take over, that's right the guy Yao doesn't want and was probably yelling in his pillow the moment he heard his team had acquired.
Yao might be the better player for now, but Ron Artest is a good one too and could very easily replace him. He's not a foot or a foot and a half taller than most NBA players, but he can rebound, score, pass, defend, heck, if he was taller, he'd be better than Yao.
I liked Yao before so don't think I'm a hater, but reading those comments really brought his selfishness, but like all legit scoring options, sometimes you feel replaced when another scorer arrives, but however you shut up and that's exactly what Yao should be doing.

I agree that some things should not be aired in public, but at the same time, do you think Artest isn't going to speak his mind when he has a concern? Ron's cleaned up his actions, but he certainly isn't hesitant to speak his mind.
The dynamics of the Rockets now are very interesting.

if you're helping a recovering alcoholic, you don't drink alcohol in his face, right? Same idea here, artest is a good player with some problems however he's been quiet for a while, yao shouldn't be provoking him to break his silence

wow talk about making a big deal out of nothing, Maybe it's you who need to shut up. Yao said plenty of nice stuff about Artest in that interview and the media such as ESPN focused on the one negative thing that Yao said and completely blew things out of proportion. I agree that Yao should have kept that comment to himself but if you think Yao is selfish, then you know nothing about him.

Whoa! Calm down, man! It was just a comment, and has no bearing on what happens once they play together. Artest is a grown man, he can handle it. If it upsets or provokes Artest's fragile ego, then maybe Yao has a point.
And are you serious!? Yao is worried about losing attention!? Dude, this guy is like Jordan in China (1.4 billion people). He's BB God over there, as well as being highly respected here for his play and his intelligence.
I think you're making WAY too big of a deal outta this & being way too hard on Yao. Things like this work themselves out on a team...it's only the fans and media that jump all over it and make it into something ot isn't.
Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the Rocket's season. I think Artest will make them a serious contender.
Peace.
