1.Rich Rodriguez, Formerly of WVU
As an Ohio State fan this hurts, but RichRod was a great hire. He was a good coach at WVU, and really made that program into a powerhouse, that is not a contender for a BCS bowl consistently. All this being said the key to how RichRod does at Michigan is patience. While he is a great coach it will take at least a year maybe 2 to get this program up and running. When Michigan is 6-6 or 7-5 at the end of the year, the question is how will the fans respond. If they stay patient the wins will come, and Michigan should contend for the Big Ten crown again, but it may take a while for RichRod's players to get into the system.
2.David Cutcliffe, Formerly of Tennessee
Plain and simple David Cutcliffe was an incredible hire by Duke. This guy works magic with offenses and especially QB's. Look at what he did at Tennessee to Peyton Manning, and Erik Ainge, and Eli Manning, at Ole Miss, he made them all into NFL QB's and two of em are super bowl champs. I think that much like RichRod at Michigan the impact may take a little while, but this will be a much improved team especially QB Thad Lewis, who should grow under Cutcliffe's teaching. Consider this after Cutcliffe was hired Terrelle Pryor considered Duke as an option! That is the type of impact Cutcliffe can have and he should build Duke into a bowl team soon.
3.Bo Pelini, formerly of LSU
Pelini is a coach who should really appeal to the people of Nebraska. A guy who was the defense of coordinator for Nebraska for a season in which he improved the teams defense 44 spots, and was named interim head coach for the bowl game of which he won. Later he went to be the defensive coordinator for LSU, and you all know the rest. I think that he should really shore up the program, using maybe a more traditional attack, and really the key is the fact he is going to really bring back the blackshirts defensive mentality. I think that in year 1 he should lead Nebraska to a 8-10 win season, and make Nebraska consistent Big 12 contender.
4.Paul Johnson, Formerly of Navy
This may not seem like a real great hire on the surface, but I think Johnson is one of the most proven winners in college football. Look at what he did at Georgia Southern, 62–10, with a conference championship each year he was their and 2 national titles. Then excluding his first season at navy he went 43-19 their. All the claims that his triple option attack will not work at higher levels of football is crazy to me. Expect a mediocre year 1, but in a few seasons a GT program that if Johnson can get the right athletes should be a late december, early January bowl team.
5.Mike Sherman, formerly of Green Bay Packers
Sherman is not a big name hire, but I think he will flourish in the college level. Though Sherman has never been the head coach in college football, he was a long time assistant, and had a lot of success. Once he reached the NFL, he continued his success. leading the Packers to 3 straight division titles. I think that his pro-style offense, will be perfect, and he should really be able to coach well in the college ranks. I see him getting 8 or 9 wins with a good A&M team this year, but I don't see him being able to really get over the top in college, he never had the success winning in the playoffs at Green Bay, and I feel having to recruit with powerhouses Texas, and Oklahoma, up and comers Texas Tech, Houston, and Baylor will be a big adjustment and maybe too much for Sherman to overcome.
6.Bobby Petrino, Formerly of Atlanta Falcons
Forget about the back stabbing, and lies, and you'll see Petrino is a very good college coach. He went 41-9 at Louisville and should have success at Arkansas though not right away. He needs to get his type of players in and I think when Ryan Mallett is eligible Petrino should have success with his pass-heavy offense. The reason he isn't higher is it may be tough to really trust Petrino for the players, and that may be a hindrance throughout his career.
7.Rick Neuheisel, Formerly of Washington
Another coach whose off field problems weigh him down. Neuheisel was very successful at Washington and Colorado going a combined 66-30, so we know he can win at a high level of football. I think the biggest thing Neuheisel has done is build that staff into one of the best in the nation. I fully expect Neuheisel to be successful at UCLA, but it is always tough to win with USC in the same town, and basically having to fight them for every big time prospect. Regardless I think though a mediocre season is in store this year, expect UCLA to be a top 4 team in the Pac-Ten once Neuheisel gets the program going.

8.June Jones, Formerly of Hawaii
Though Jones left in a bit of a classless way he was a very successful coach at Hawaii leading them to a 75-41 record in his tenure. While it may appear his pass heavy offense may be tough to install at a program, I feel it will be much easier to recruit the players he wants, no longer being at Hawaii. I think that the team should have a significant leap and become a contender in the WAC, though Jones is clearly a coach that is looking for bigger things, so be wary that he doesn't jump ship.
9.Kevin Sumlin, Formerly of Oklahoma
Sumlin was one of the more underrated hires of the season. He has had success everywhere he has coached whether it be last year at OU helping to develop Sam Bradford, and th explosive Oklahoma offense or at Texas A&M helping that offense out. I expect Sumlin to really maintain the solid play at Houston, though it is no guarantee considering this will be his first head coaching job. Anyway watch out, because with success he could be heading to a BCS program sometime soon.
10.Jerry Kill, Formerly of Southern Illinois
I really like Kill. He absolutely turned around a program from 1-10, to a 10-2 record in just 2 seasons at Southern Illinois, and he should continue to improve Northern Illinois. In his career Kill has been very successful with a 104-5 record, so he has proven he can win at the smaller levels. The question is can he do it in D-1A. I expect him to maintain the program that Joe Novak built, but it will be an adjustment for a coach who has never ever, coached any sort of D-1A football.
