Alright since I haven't blogged in four days for the Jets club I figured I didn't want to lead you guys to believe this was getting inactive so I have a fresh batch of stories for you right here so come and get 'em!!!
Baker News
No, I'm not refering to Tom Baker a.k.a. Steve Martin however I'm talking about Chris Baker who almost turned his contract dispute into the second coming of Pete Kendall however all was able to be avoided once Baker hit the PUP list. Speaking of which Baker was taken off the PUP according to TJB and was said to be seen practicing with the team during this mornings camp session. TJB also reported that Baker could be traded but keeping him could (in my own words) would be wiser at this point (Keller still needs blocking tips, Baker had good answers last year as that showed since he had his best season ever).
Baker mentioned that he would not be mentioning his contract anymore however he did say "I'm happy to be here." At least now this whole contract thing is in the books and I really do have a spot for Baker because I believe he didn't want to drag this out but the Jets lie (which is getting highly annoying) and it really isn't his fault, I'd be freaking out too if they didn't do something when they said and then I might have to find a new home, I can see his side and sometimes you understand how Kendall felt although he had a temper that could blow any minute.
Training Camp Signings, Waivers and Retirements
Like any other season there have been many players who have come and gone during the offseason or went on to the taxi squad ... Anyway the Jets made two recent transactions and had one player retire before even playing. First New York re-signed safety Nate Lyles (there is hope for Woodhead yet); the Jets appearently must see something in Lyles since they have decided to give him a second look and as he came they took Jerry Mackey off the list again who was previously with New York before the start of last season.
And despite recently aquiring him Atrell Hawkins has decided to end his career and retire before starting with the Jets in the 08' season ... I suppose it is for the best the Jets still have a way to go before cutting down to the 53 man roster but it is sad to see Hawkins go before we could even see how well he would adapt in New York.
*As TJB (The Jets Blog) pointed out, adding Chris Baker to the roster could "put the squeeze" on other players such as Posiack and Caulcrick (two mentioned names) ... There are a lot of off season aquisions such as Jehuu (Caulcrick) on the list because he had some good qualities I found out (benefits of doing an outlook for all positions), no doubt it should be a waive / trip to the taxi squad fest like in years past.*
Tea Time: It Wasn't meant to Be .... DUH!!!
I told everyone not to get over - excited about the Packers possibly trading Favre. Despite Favre's reinstatement it appears he will remain with the Packers after being told no spot would be there for him when and if he came back (I'll write more on that in my TSHATW blog about that soon). It wasn't meant to be and I knew it despite the fact that trade talks were in the air however I didn't exactly buy it and even if Favre was to be traded I highly doubt it would have happened here however I suppose it gave New York fans something to cheer about for 60 seconds. It seems that Favre's memoir, "I Want to Play!" can finally be completed
