Maybe Marte will turn things around but it seems that he cant handle the pressure of pitching in a big city like New York. Marte showed promise in his first appearence against the Red Soxs David Ortiz by striking him out but he was also coming off a injury. Since then Marte has been anything but impressive. Coming into tonights game against the Texas Rangers Marte had a 5.40 ERA. I know he has only pitched 3.1 innings but he does not look like the dominant reliver he was with the Pirates. And to only prove my point in tonights game Marte looked back to form in his first inning of work but just lost it in the ninth. He walked three batters and eventually gave up a game winning grandslam. He also hasn't been able to shut down lefties like he was supposed to. Now I know I may be over reacting a little bit but the Yankees need him to pitch the way he did in Pittsburg to make the playoffs and to succeed in the playoffs. He could be facing many tough lefties such as Ortiz, Pena, Morneau, Griffey en route to the playoffs and in the playoffs in big situations that can decide the game. Even though it sounds like I'm against him however I'm still rooting for himto do good because he is still on my team the New York Yankees.

I think Marte will be fine if he's used in matchup situations, but I don't think it's a good idea to use him for multiple innings - like many relief pitchers, that's not his strength. If Girardi uses him the right way, I think he'll do the job we got him for.

As a Pirate fan and one who watched Marte on a regular basis, I never saw him as a "dominant" reliever. YF13 is right, he needs to be used matchup situations.

girardi left him out there way too long last night. and while i agree with his decision not to bring robertson in, marte definitely should not have been allowed to pitch as long as he did.
