The heading was a joke. However basically true. With Beckham you get all that Hollywood craze plus an extra bonus of TMZ looking out for the #23. But this article is not about Beckham, its about the Galaxy. If you know the Galaxy before the Beckham craze, before Donovanmania, you know that the Galaxy was the underdog, the black horse of the MLS. The team to beat basically. Yes I do agree that the Galaxy with this crazy circus, sucks, but I remember the years when the Galaxy had Eduardo "Tanque" Hurtado, Jorge Campos, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Cobi Jones, Robin Fraiser, Kevin Hartman, and Paul Cauliguiri. These were the players that kept the Galaxy #1 in the Western Conference, the players that I grew up with, the players that are more valuable than Beckham will ever be as of right now, and the players that got the Galaxy respect in the MLS.
I say the Galaxy needs to return to its roots of success. To look at this success and fix the errors that have lead them to failure, to a lot of haters, and to a lot of disrespect.
Their defense is a no brainer of disaster something that the past reveals was always solid. Players like Dunivant and Albright were traded because of Beckham. Now the only player I see of the defense that has a light bulb is Sean Franklin but one player is not enough. Yes we got Beckham and the Midfield looks good. As for the forwards, Edson Buddle to me looks like a promising "Tanque" but the next forward Pescado Ruiz is in decline and doesnt have the spark he used to have in 2002.
What they need to do? Simple, we got Beckham. He is showing his spark. However they need to completely change the club. Beckham is a keeper according to the Galaxy but keeping him requires money. If you dont believe me, look at the MLS Draft tape in which the Galaxy give up round picks for allocation money and the crowd goes boo!!!!! However even if you got Donovan and Buddle this is not enough since the defense is not solid. To get players in the defense they need money which is hard with Ruiz, Donovan and Beckham getting most of the money.
Trade Ruiz and Donovan and get Quality Young Defense and make up for Donovan and Ruiz by getting players in the MLS, Draft, Tryouts, or Internationally. Will this work out???? Yeah because it allows the Galaxy to get players that are young, not old who are about to retire like Xavier.....
Lets see what the Galaxy does, hopefully we will see them on top like we did in the begining of MLS....
Oh yeah and fire LALAS!!! He got the Galaxy in this decline, by making bad trades and getting terrible coaches!!!!!
They need young talent or some good professional players, not some old retiring "I played good before, but I will give feces for money" players in their mid 30's!!!!!!!!!
