My teams were detrermined by geography and family tradition (grew up in Jax, fourth generation AU grad) but I am pleased to see parallels in their pigskin philosophy.

Both are dominated by defense with a recent uptick in offensive capabilities.   Auburn is moving from the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense of Pat Dye and onto the presently ubiquitous spread. Jacksonville couldn't be happier with the play of QB David Garrard, who makes Jack Del Rio look like a genius with the replacement of Byron Leftwich in last year's preseason.  The man has cojones, as proved most certainly with two wins (one in the playoffs) in Pittsburgh last year against the Steelers.

The Jaguars seem to be everyone's darling pick....hope it isn't the kiss of death. Another similar debilitating forecast was made by SI, selecting the Auburn Tigers as preseason number 7.  We'll see.

Let the season begin.
