The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles friday night in their preseason home opener by a score of 16-10.  The "Men of Steel" now lead the combined preseason series vs the Eagles by 4-2.

Steelers First Team Offense: Can only be described as "Crisp".  Ben Roethlisberger lead his squad on the opening drive w/ 8 plays & 80 yards resulting in a TD reception by Sanatonio Holmes.  The offensive line virtually drove the Eagles defense backwards on every play (Impressive blocking skills).  Roethlisberger could only describe them as "awesome" in a postgame interview.  Willie Parker rushed w/ speed & power (3 carries for 20 yrds)  Just the excitement of being back on the field since his leg fracture last season made him perform w/ even more intensity. Hines Ward was on his mark (1 reception for 19 yrds).

Rashard Mendenhall then followed Parker in his Steelers debut. Mendenhall proved himself being worthy of a 1st round draft pick.  He rushed w/ the speed of Parker & nearly the combined size of Jerome Bettis (7 carries for 34yrds, the longest being 15 yrds).  Improving every time the ball touched his hands.

Limas Sweed got the chance to strut his acrobatic ability w/ 3 receptions for 23 yrds (looking good...).

Jeff Reed showed that he truely is the "Real Mr. Automatic".  Kicking 3/3 w/ the longest being a 50 yarder @   the end of the game ( Say What???).  It's true...

The only downside was the injury suffered by 2nd string Steelers QB, Charlie Batch.  He had to leave the game w/ a fractured right collar bone following a vallient attempt to rush for several yards.  The Steelers will now need a backup QB.  Dennis Dixon & Mike Potts are available, but only time will tell if the Steelers seek the help of a veteran QB.....

The Steelers Defense: 1st Team looked "Crisp" as well.  Were able to hold McNabb and his men to only a field goal on their opening drive.  A feat of significant proportions.  Eason, Farrior, & Woods also each got themselves a sack.

Remember Steelers fans, it's still early days...  But, the "Men of Steel" definately started the year on the right foot... Very promising...

Next on the list - Them Bills.....

New Poll - Check It.....
