I'm glad I have this on tape. Last night I had to work through the Olympic opening ceremonies and I turned it on at around, I don't know, 11:15. I got to see China walk around with their flag. Right then it already looked awesome to be in Beijing that night. Then they came back from commercial and started the torch relay. Okay...eight relay-ers, on 8/8/08 on an even that started at 8...seems typical so far. Then BOOM! The guy that got to light the cauldron went up in the air. Nobody in the crowd say that coming. He did a 360 around the top of the stadium and lit up the cauldron in dramatic fashion. Unbelievable.
I may have only saw the last half-hour so far, but the opening ceremonies looked amazing. When the torch relay was going around, I kept looking off behind the runners, watching 50 lights flicker from cameras every second. That's all normal, but then the fans had those colorful lanterns and it made everything look even cooler. And after the cauldron popped out of nowhere and was lit, the fireworks...great stuff.
So then on the credits/video at the end, they re-capped most of the action at the ceremonies, all of the things the people did, and it looked awesome. I'm not old enough to see a lot of opening ceremonies, but this could be the greatest ever. Your thoughts?
