I would never try to b.s. you, so I won't write that true freshman running back Darrell Scott and his wondrous talent won't be fuel injection for the Colorado Buffaloes offense but I will go so far as to say his contributions to the 2008 season won't determine the Buffs success as much the following factors:
1. The talent and chemistry of the offensive line.
2. Quarterback Cody Hawkins' continued maturation, which includes learning what he can and can't do and sticking with the former.
3. Finding two guys to make plays deep consistently at wide receiver. Maybe Josh Smith is one (being a better immediate route runner would help too) but who is the other? Is raw meat Kendrick Celestine ready to prove he's the one?
4. Coach Dan Hawkins understanding his personnel and playing to it with wisdom and intuition.
5. Making the special teams a true advantage on Saturdays.
6. Finding a way, a scheme, whatever to slow the run to 125 yards a game and then creating magic in the pass rush, at least to the point of forcing turnovers.
Yes, running the ball with Scott and maybe Demetrius "the Forgotten Man" Sumler and baby Ray Polk will help take pressure of Cody Hawkins but without many factors getting it done, CU will struggle to return to a bowl game.
