After a long and exhausting night in Beijing (or day there) the United states took home a whopping 8 medals in the fourth day of cometition to steal the medal lead from China 20-16 as of today.
It started off with womens volleyball and the United Stetes team showed complete dominance winning in straight sets for the second straight Olympic game to go 2-0. They beat the Cuban team and will advance and play another match on Wednesday.
The swimming was where the United States shined. In the first final of the night (Mens 200M Free) Phelps grabbed the gold easily and the world record and Peter Vanderkaay surprisingly took the bronze. After that we headed to backstroke and the mens USA team took the gold and the bronze in world record fashion. After that, the womens side took gold and silver. 6 medals in three events. After that was the womens 100m breastsroke and the team got an upset silver.
Gymnastics was also heating up on the mens side. Team USA, who qualified in the 6th spot and barely made it to the team final, did incredible routines with eye popping jumps and flips and were in first place at the midway mark over the heavily favored Chinese. As the night wore on, the Chinese were too tall of an order for the USA team but they were in silver position with one event left. This would be an upset if they beat Japan out.
As we were set to the last event it was the US on the pummel horse and the Japanese on the high bars. The USA had a half point net that they could settle into but they choked. They got the first 12 in 4 Olympics to start it off and then followed with a 13. There good pummel horse guy ended things off with a 15.5 but Japan rose up to take the silver medal.
Tonight is mens volleyball, more swimming and the womens gymnastics team final.
