Myself, and all of my fellow Packer fans had a reason to be excited about our preseason opener.  As I'm sure everyone knows by now the Aaron Rodgers era officially begins for the Green Bay Packers.  What's there to say about the way Aaron played?  He played well.  It's nothing to get too excited about, but it's nothing to get discouraged about either.

As a matter of fact one of my major criticisms of the game is that Tony Kornheiser is still an idiot, but that's beside the point.  I'm very happy that the Packers aren't on MNF very much this year, however the times that we are will suck, I hate listening to Kornheiser.

Anyways, it's really hard to say that we learned anything new about Aaron.  All of the Packers training camp stuff that I've seen on tv or that I've read about has said that Aaron has a very strong arm..and that was apparent during his time in the game.  I thought that Aaron made the throws that he had to make.  We didn't really get much of a chance to see his mobility, however I loved the fact that he stood in the pocket.  I'm by no means a quarterback expert, but I am a sports fan, and I've seen lots of games, and a lot of times with young quarterbacks they tend to want to run right away..I don't see many younger quarterbacks staying in the pocket and making the throw.

The back up situation is a bit troubling to me.  Not because I don't like Aaron's back up, but because I haven't really seen anyone take control of the situation.  Right now, I would think the guy in the lead should be Matt Flynn.  But, you've got to believe, that since we used such a high draft pick on Brian Brohm he's going to get a lot of opprotunities to be A-Rod's back up.  With Brian Brohm he seemed really nervous out there..I'm not sure if it was just me, but I didn't see what I was hoping to out of him.  Here was a guy projected to be a first round pick by some, and it's not as if he played horribly, he just didn't stand out the way I thought he would.

Matt Flynn was impressive. Made some solid throws.  As I said before he should be our number 2 quarterback heading into the San Francisco game.  I thought Matt did some nice things out there.

The one thing that I did learn about this football team as a whole is that there is going to be a great football team around Aaron Rodgers.  Yeah, there's going to be pressure on Aaron, but when you can throw to guys like Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, James Jones, Ruvel Martin and Jordy Nelson...he's going to have some weapons.  Just to talk a bit about the team as a whole, all of the injuries in camp thus far are making me nervous.  Espeically how thin we are at defenisve tackle.  I do think that come opening night there's going to be a great team taking the field against the Vikings though.

I'm cautiously pessimistic.

...just kidding. I think the team'll do great.
