Why is it that we get all hung up on a certain player. I guess each person has their own reasons, whether its his/her charm, good looks, talent, or whatever. I count myself in that catagory. Don't get me wrong, if Tom Brady asked me out for the weekend I'd tell my husband "see ya Monday". (Okay, that's pretty far out there, but a girl can dream).
I'll admit it, I'm a Patriot fan (yeah, yeah, I've heard it all), point is I like Tom Brady, but I root for him because he plays for the Patriots, not the other way around. If, God forbid, Brady was ever traded, I'd have to wish him well and move on with the new QB.
Sometimes we get so blinded by our obsession with one player that we lose sight of the fact that he's just one part of a team, even if he' the main part. I have favorite players in different sports, but first and foremost, I root for "MY TEAM".
I would just like to get people to think for a minute about athletes. In reality we are just fans and there are millions just like us, but when the curtain comes down and the game is over, athletes don't give us a second thought.
I write this blog because I have seen so many Packer fans being torn apart because of the Brett Favre trade. You have to decide if you are just obsessed with one player or just mad at the situation. You loved to watch your team win, so does everyone, but you have to make a decision on whether you want to now be a "JETS" fan and continue rooting for Favre or whether your loyalties are with the team you've rooted for your whole life.
Believe me, when I say, I know how disappointed Packer fans are. I'm sure you all remember the Superbowl. As upset as I was, it's over and i can't change it, so I'm now waiting for this season to start and a chance to root for "MY TEAM".

I agree Smoothsandy. Most of those Packers fans were really Favre fans. I'm not sure it's possible to be fans of both at the same time.While I wish the Packers luck and I wish Favre luck, I will also say GO PATS. =-]

I agree with you. I'm just like you, I'm a fan of the team, not the players. It's a shame to see so many people who I thought were fellow Packer fans turn out to be just Brett Favre fans. Brett Favre is a great player but the Packers were here long before Favre and the Packers will be here long after Favre.

I'm already a Jets fan but I'm a fan of the team not the player. It's good to have Favre but I'm not exactly expecting miracles here.
The only players that I am "fans" of are soccer players. Dwight Yorke. I followed him to all the teams he played for. Him and Cristiano Ronaldo. That's it.

I agree with you Sandy - way too much emphasis on the player and not the team. The teams I like the most are ones where the players want to win for the team not themselves. It is nice to see some players who put this first....
