The Buffs needed a serious infusion of talent & depth behind quarterback Cody Hawkins heading into 2008 and they apparently got it in recruits Darrell Scott, Ray Polk and Rodney Stewart.
Very early word has it the trio all have the mad skills and desire to be "special." Scott is big, fast and driven and might one day be as good as his press clippings indicate he should be. Polk was highly recruited but he's "the other guy" to many Scott groupies but his versatility could make him a large assest for the Buffs offense. Watch him become as proficient in the passing game as the running attack. Stewart could become the big little man, the Herchell Troutman but with more explosion, more speed. If the Trips can avoid the injury plague and keep grinding, they could give the offense a jolt of B-12, make defenses play the run hard and give Hawkins the breathing room he needs in the passing game with question marks remaining amongst the wideouts.
The Buffs aren't all the way there offensively yet but you can see it coming together. The line, the backs, tight ends and interesting prospects at quarterback. If the receivers come around in the next year or two, CU could again be potent and able to light up scoreboards consistently.
By achieving that level of competency and excellence, pressure comes off the defense, always a quick way to help a team's chances at victory.
A P.S. note for you. Don't forget the old entirely while welcoming the new. Demetrius Sumler was not a wallflower in high school. He was a producer. And the Buffs are going to get a benefits package with him. It might eventually be at fullback with some carries at running back mixed in or it might be as an injury replacement but the Buffs will use and be happy they have Sumler.
