So Here is Day 1 the top 14 QB's in the Nation
#1.Tim Tebow, Florida, Junior
Easy Pick, how can you choose anyone other than Tebow. He won the Heisman last year, and is back and primed for another big season. Obviously Tebow can run and pass well, but what really impresses me is how efficient, and careful he is. He only threw 6 picks a year ago, and that was among tops in the country. His numbers from last year are staggering, 55 TD's, and over 4,000 total yards. While those should both see falls this season, expect another big year from Tebow, and possibly another Heisman as he will be on a BCS contending team.
#2.Chase Daniel, Missouri, Senior
Daniel may be the best intermediate passing QB in the game and he uses those 8-15 yards routes to perfection. A complete QB Daniel was a Finalist for the Heisman last year, and I personally have him picked to win it this season. Last year he had 68% completion, 33 TD's only 10 picks and 4306 yards. What makes Daniel great is his ability to escape pressure and make plays with his feet, much like Troy Smith. I expect another big season from Daniel, and his Mizzou team.
#3.Armanti Edwards, Appalachian State, Junior
If you read one of my previous blogs, I wrote a piece on Edwards, and you already know I really like this kid. Last Year he was dominant in FCS. Look at this Edwards was in the top 10 in rushing yards, and passing efficiency. Despite missing 3 games Edwards had crazy good numbers He threw for 1,948 yards and 17 touchdowns and ran for 1,588 yards and 21 scores. Oh and in the playoffs while leading his team to their third straight national title he had an amazing performance in the semi's against Richmond when he rushed for 313 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 182 yards and three scores. Then he was named the MVP of the title game. We all know what he did against Michigan, and I think that if healthy Edwards will end the year as a Heisman Finalist.
#4.Sam Bradford, Oklahoma, Sophomore
Bradford had the greatest season of any Freshman QB in the history of the NCAA. Bradford led OU to a Big 12 title, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 36 TD's leading the nation in passing efficiency. Bradford is uncannily accurate, in fact through 4 games Bradford only had 9 more incompletion's than TD's. I expect Bradford to struggle a little more this year with the loss of Allen Patrick, and Malcolm Kelly, but still Bradford is a serious Heisman contender.
#5.Pat White, West Virginia, Senior
I personally am not as high on Pat White as many are. I feel that he has a tendency to disappear, when his team is unable to get it going, and seems to get dinged up a bit to easily. That being said, I had a good mind to put White at #3, because he is very, very hard to stop. Last year he ran for 1,335 yards and 14 TD's, and threw for 1,724 yards and 14 TD's against only 4 picks. His rushing numbers should go down this year as new coach Bill Stewart wants to keep White in the pocket more, but I still expect a huge year from White. I think White's ability to make things happen when plays breakdown is impressive, and if WVU heads to the National Title expect White to possibly win the Heisman.
#6.Cullen Harper, Clemson, Senior
Let me start out by saying that if Clemson's "O" line doesn't step up then Harper may really struggle. That being said let me say something. Harper was the best QB in the ACC last year, better than Matt Ryan. He had 27 TD's 6 picks, and 2,991 yards passing. Harper is very accurate, and a clutch player. I see a big season, and Harper as a Heisman sleeper this year.
#7.Matt Stafford, Georgia, Junior
I know I'll get a lot of flak for this pick, but I am officially on the Matt Stafford bandwagon. I was not sold on him, but I went back and watched the Florida game, and was left very impressed by his performance. That and the fact of the positive reviews I have heard from everyone makes me think Stafford will break out this year. Last year he had 18 TD's against 10 picks, but looking at the second half of last year I was impressed. Stafford has good scrambling ability and crazy arm strength up their with the likes of JaMarcus Russell, and Joe Flacco. While his accuracy needs work it is coming along, and I think that a breakout season and possibly some Heisman love will be coming his way.
#8.Graham Harrell, Texas Tech, Senior
Harrell put's up ridiculous numbers, but I am not sold on his ability aginst a top notch "D" as the 2 he played last year he combined to throw for 3 TD's against 6 picks. Nonetheless Harrell is a great QB last year he put up crazy numbers, 5705 yards passing and 48 TD's, with 71% completion. In fact in his career he has over 10,000 yards passing and 89 TD's against 25 picks. Harrell is decent sized, and as great accuracy, though those numbers are a bit inflated, he still has solid arm strength. I expect yet another 5,000+ yard season from Harrell, and if TTU has a big season, maybe even some Heisman love.
#9.Max Hall, BYU, Junior
Last year Hall was one of the biggest surprise players in the nation, coming out of nowhere to lead BYU to an 11-2 season. Hall has talent, as he was originally from Arizona State, then transfered. Last year Hall threw for 3,848 yards 26 TD's, and only 12 picks. Question his talent against BCS teams, though the 3 games he played were against average defenses Hall threw for 910 yards and 6 TD's against only 1 pick, which are very impressive numbers. Hall is a good QB, who has solid accuracy and arm strength, but is very good at finding the open receiver. BYU returns plenty of offensive talent and could be a BCS Buster so if that happens expect Hall to get the Heisman hype much like Colt Brennan.
#10.Dan LeFevour, Central Michigan, Junior
I contemplated putting LeFevour in every spot before this except the top 2, but I couldn't bring myself to place him ahead of any of the players on here. I think that LeFevour is one of the most complete QB's in the nation, and last year he ran for over 1,000 yards and threw for over 3,000 joining Vince Young as the only players to do that. He also threw 27 TD's and ran for 19, nearly joining Tim Tebow in the 20-20 club. LeFevour has a big arm, and obviously is very mobile, I think that he could easily be the #3 QB in the nation, but I am just not comfortable putting him that high.
#11.Willie Tuitama, Arizona, Senior
Tutiama is a great QB, but very streaky and that is what kept me from putting him higher on the list. Last year Tuitama had 3683 yards passing and 28 TD's against 12 picks, but was streaky throughout the year, throwing 0 TD's and 3 picks against Oregon State, but throwing 5 TD's against Washington. Tuitama is pretty accurate, and has a solid arm though nothing special. In year 2 under Sonny **** offense I expect Tuitama to breakout even more, and lead Arizona to a bowl game.
#12.Matt Grothe, USF, Junior
Grothe's passing numbers were a bit alarming last year, but I expect to see a big leap in them this year as the offense returns almost everyone. Grothe had 3,542 total yards last year and he added 24 total TD's though he did have 14 picks. Grothe is a blazer, with great potential as a passer, and is already among the top running QB's in the nation. I think Grothe should have a big season this year and improve as a passer.
#13.Curtis Painter, Purdue, Senior
Painter has nearly 9,000 career passing yards, so he is a proven passer. He needs to improve his interceptions and accuracy some though, but last year he really stepped up throwing for 3,864 yards, 29 TD's, and only 11 picks. Painter's numbers were a bit inflated by his early season creampuffs, but he is still a solid QB, who has great arm strength and potential to be a star in the NFL. Expect another big year from him this season.
#14.Rusty Smith, FAU, Junior
Smith did not get nearly enough respect for the big time season he had last year. He threw for 3688 yards and 32 TD's against only 9 picks, while leading FAU to a conference title. I think that if Smith improves his accuracy, he can become one of the top 10 QB's in the nation, he is that good. He has a strong arm, good size, and solid mobility. I think he will have another big season, and another Sun Belt player of the year award.
