Bigger feat:

Usain Bolt's 9.69 one hundred meter dash

or

Michael Phelps' 8 gold medals in one olympics.

I'd say Phelps.I mean sure Bolt's is a world record, but I see someone breaking it LONG before Phelps could possibly be broken.

August 17, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Definitely Phelps' 8 gold medals

August 17, 2008  12:35 PM ET

Phelps without doubt

August 17, 2008  05:24 PM ET

Phelps

August 17, 2008  07:50 PM ET

Usain Bolt.

They are both PHENOMENAL records. I could go either way, but I gotta give a vote for Bolt because it is 4-0.

August 17, 2008  08:50 PM ET

Tough call. Hard to vote against Bolt, but I think Phelps gets it.

August 17, 2008  10:35 PM ET

Bolt's record will be broken within a month. Phelps' may never be broken.

I'm voting Phelps.

August 19, 2008  10:26 AM ET

Phelps - 6
Bolt - 1

August 20, 2008  01:27 PM ET

Phelps.

August 20, 2008  01:50 PM ET

It's very close for me. The way in which Bolt broke the record, with such ease, was phenomenal. However, for Phelps to win 8 golds in swimming is something I may never see again in my lifetime.

I gotta go Phelps.

August 20, 2008  01:59 PM ET

I think it's Phelps. I was sort of disgusted with Bolt because he let up at the end of the 100m race. That dude can fly and should have posted something around 9.55 in my opinion

August 20, 2008  02:07 PM ET

It's Phelps. 8 golds vs. 1 race

A more fair comparison for this survey would be:

Bolt: 100m record PLUS 200m record today (that stood for 20 yrs) + relays? (tbd)

or Phelps?

August 20, 2008  03:34 PM ET

must vote bolt, no doubt.

August 20, 2008  05:24 PM ET

Phelps has seven world records

Bolt only has 1 (or maybe 2 i dont know how he did in the 200)

Phelps hands down

August 21, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Phelps - 11
Bolt - 2

August 22, 2008  06:59 PM ET

ok now he has 3 if u wanna count the 4x100 but still Phelps

August 25, 2008  02:57 AM ET

Love Phelps... but here are the facts just to be fair:

Phelps almost had only 5 golds instead of 8. Of course a win is a win, so Phelps did beat Cavic by a fingernail victory .01 sec... so he did earn on his own 6 gold medals fair and square. However the other 2 golds he did have a whole lot of help from his teammates to come from behind to win.

Bolt DID have 3 very convincing wins (just like Phelps) in ALL of his 3 races... 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay... all with new WR (and oh by the way his run attributes greatly to the relay win). So we have 3 runs, 3 wins, and 3 new WR... and he made them all looked RIDICULOUSLY easy. I'm willing to bet that if there were more ways to SPRINT (for example 50m, 150m, 250m, 300m, 350m, run backward, run sideway, blah blah, you get the point) then Bolt would and could still beat them all for ALL of his races. This means, if there were 8 different sprint formats in an Olympic then Bolt will also get ALL 8 golds and chances they are all new WR (look how ridiculously easy he beat the rest of the world class Olympians!!). Put a really fast guy on the track, and he WILL be fast in all format he qualifies to run.

That said, I think these guys are EQUAL in terms of ability to win record high gold medals in a single Games. Phelps is the only one to do it simply because (1) he is capable just like Bolt, and (2) this is KEY: there are 8 opportunities for Phelps to win (Bolt only had 3 AND he excelled in all 3)

I only vote for Phelps because he's the only guy whose metabolism can burn more than 12,000 calories per day. Good golly... who could eat a five-person meal by himself in one seating... and STILL has his six-pack??
