Today was a very odd day in Beijing as the main event haedline for gymnatics and overall remains the fact tht there was a gymnastics tie involved. Of the three gymnatics single event finals China did get the best of the United States but we recupperated in the track and field events as well including the sweep in the 400m hurdles.
1. In the mens still rings routine China took a 1-2 finish with an upset with Yang Wei coming in for the silver instead of the gold as well. Both Chinese team members did a very good job and both of them sticked their landings perfectly.
2. The mens vault was just as good and although we didnt medal again, the Chinese were only held to another bronze medal.
3. The gold medal spotlight was one to remember but will also taint the sports judging in the Olympics becuase of the poor job that they really did. He Xekin was in first in the uneven bars throughout the whole competition and got a 16.725 with an error filled routine.
And then when Nastia Liukin went up she had less errors and a much stronger routine overall and ended up with a 16.725 as well. Not many people knew what had happened but after the tie the computers ranked He ahead of Nastia. And this is how the tie-breaker went.
First you take the lowest and highest execution scores away from both gymnasts and you see who is the clear winner by adding up both of the scores. But they both still had equal scores so they had to go deeper into the execution scoring.
The next step is to take away the next lowest score which would leave both gymnasts with 3 scores left and this is where they stood. He had a 9.1, 9.1, 9.0 and Nastia had a 9.1, 9.0, 9.0 and it was really decided by one judge who must not have noticed a simple error involved as well. A very odd day indeed.
Tonights gold medal spotlight will be the womens 400 meter dash with some well seeded Americans and Jamaicans in The race and thwere will be more track and field events along with gymnastics finals for the single events.
