According to reports, French versatile defender Mikael Silvestre has been transferred to Arsenal on  a two year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Silvestre pursues ex-Gunner Ljungberg

Silvestre has been with Manchester United since 1999 and made 361 appearances for the Red Devils

Mikael said on signing for the Gunners: "I've spent a large part of my career at United, the last nine years, and I'll remember that time fondly but feel I'm ready for a new challenge. Arsenal is known for playing technical and skilful football, and has a young but experienced squad. I'm really excited about this next stage of my career, hopefully playing my part in helping the Club to new successes."

Silvestre will wear the shirt number 18.

Silvestre had previously been linked to Ligue 1 teams PSG and Bordeaux.

Regardless of the fee, I think Sir Alex was right to let Silvestre go as he had become nothing more than a fringe player, barred by Evra on the left and Ferdinand and Vidic in the heart of the defense.

Silvestre has given a lot to the Red Devils over the past 9 years and has always acted as a true professional.

By freeing his spot and his significant wage, Sir Alex is making room for a possible future acquisition in this summer transfer window or in the winter transfer window.

Good move for both teams

With Johnny Evans coming up from the academy, we had no need for Silvestre, we had younger and better cover in all positions, he was way down in the pecking order

Might as well get something for him and let the youngster get their chance, lets just hope our back 4 doesn't get injured

I doubt we will be missing him.

we still have veteran O'Shea as versatile cover...

Id like to see Micah Richards in a Red Devil jersey though...

I'm not that surprised about a player going from ManUtd to Arsenal. I'm more surprised that Wenger signed him

I just realized that indeed, this is very unusual for Wenger as he has that rule of not offering deals longer than one year to players over 30...

Johnny Evans ok but Id really like for there to be some cover for our back 4... Not sure if letting Pique leave was the best idea...

Hey Wenger is French

Richards stated his dream move is Arsenal, why would City sell to their crosstown rivals?

Then again, look at Silvestre
