Forget Hamilton, it's Miggy Time! | The Batting Cages

Just over a month ago, everyone got the Josh Hamilton fever. He broke a record in the Home Run Derby with 26 home runs in one round. He made the All-Star team, thanks to his league leading 95 runs batted in, a great second half could have had him set to come very close to that MLB record of 191 runs batted in during a season. Hamilton's comeback story became the biggest feel-good story since a long time. He was the one, the only, the centerfielder on the Texas Rangers, Josh Hamilton.

The Hamilton craziness period (the "Hamilton era" would be a better term) was fun while it lasted, even the people who didn't know anything about baseball knew the name of Josh Hamilton. Hamilton has hit drove in just 20 runs since the All-Star break and he has seen his average drop. A once Triple Crown candidate is just trying to play a whole lot better so he can get some stats to pretty up his name on that MVP candidate list. Face it, the "Hamilton Era" is over.

There is a new name that every person around the country has to plus into their brain and his name is Miguel Cabrera.

If there was a term that was called "hotter than hot" it would clearly be describing Cabrera. Cabrera just drove in his100th RBI of the year, second place in the league, and on the pace he is on, he should be able to top Hamilton (who, I said before, has 115). Cabrera has 29 home runs and he should be able to come close to 40, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a new career in that catagory by when the season is up. He has hit three home runs in his last two games and always comes up with a clutch hit.

His average is just hovering around .295 but he has been hitting over .300 for a span of a few weeks. He should be up around .305 or .310 before the season is up. Hamilton who? We got the real deal in town.

Get rid of all of those overrated, flashy names in your head (Alex Rodriuez, Josh Hamilton) and think of Miguel Cabrera. If there ever was a Triple Crown candidate this season, Miggy is. If he doesn't win Triple Crown, he should come very close.

We got a long era ahead of us - it will last much longer than the Josh Hamilton era - it's called the "Miguel Cabrera era".
