I just read this story on ESPN SoccerNet and honestly I cannot believe it's true: but it is. A player in Romania was sold from his second division team to a fourth division team for 15 kilograms of Meat. 15 Kilograms equals out to be 33 pounds of Meat or as fourth division side Regal Horia states to be a week's ration of food for their club. This deal to me is reminiscent of the minor league baseball player that was traded for some bats and balls. However, unlike that deal Regal Horia has nothing to show for their Meat trade. Why, you ask?

Well it appears that the player involved doesn't want to play soccer anymore. Marius Cioara, the player that was transferred from second division UT Arad, has decided to quit soccer and move to Spain to pursue a job in agriculture or construction. Apparently being a laborer in Spain is more lucrative then playing fourth division football in Romania. So, although Cioara has quit football the deal still stands. UT Arad has 33 pounds of Meat and Regal Horia has lost a week's worth of food and doesn't even have a player to show for it.

It's pretty funny if you think about it. It gives the term a pound of flesh a whole new meaning.

As always thanks for reading.

That's prett funny. Sucks to be that guy and that team. How very "soccer" of them. By "soccer", I mean "bush-league".

Lol, thanks for the laugh.

I just couldn't believe that. Poor Regal Horia. No player and no meat.

Funny stuff, now you can see the depth of competiton to get to the top leagues in Europe.

I doubt playing soccer is only a part time job for these guys in the romanian 4th division, 33lbs of meat, lol

I don't know how to top that, to be honest.

It's pretty funny. Reminds me of the minor league hockey player that was traded for a bag of pucks and some other random equipment about 30 years ago. The team's equipment budget had been slashed so they did what they had to do.

LOL, I'm sure I've heard something like this before.

It's funny because it was their whole ration of food for a week. Imagine being on Regal Horia. Not only are you hungry but the guy you traded the meat for isn't hungry with you?

Man, I'd kill that dude before he hops his flight to Spain.
