As we all know, the WWE had a storyline going on about the chairman of the company, "Mr. McMahon", dying in a car bombing. Well, in reality, one of the biggest stars in WWE, Chris Benoit, has passed away. He, his wife, and his son were found dead in their suburban Atlanta home.
I have been doing a weekly update about the progression of the Mr. McMahon death angle. Well, and I really do hate to say this, but I almost feel like Vince got what he deserved. I never believed in the storyline from the moment his car "exploded."
A lot of the people thought that the angle should have ended last week when former WWE Diva "Sensational" Sherri Martel passed away. But they kept the angle going. Now...they can't.
The show opened with Vince standing in the middle of the ring, with no one in attendance, stating that his death angle wasn't real, but Benoit's death was.
I pretty much felt bad for McMahon, as I can't even fathom how difficult it was for him to stand right in the ring and basically state that his company is fake. But anyway, I just really wish that the angle never happened.
Hopefully the WWE will somehow be able to move on and try to not even acknowledge Benoit's passing coupled with the terrible Mr. McMahon perishing storyline.
I just somehow hope that the WWE won't lose a ton of fans and credit....but they just may.
And last night at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view, I read online that my personal favorite wrestler, Johnny Nitro defeated C.M. Punk to win the ECW World Title. Well guess who C.M. Punk was supposed to wrestle that night? Answer: Chris Benoit. So now that I find out that Benoit has perished, I feel terrible.
20 hours earier I was pumped upon hearing that Nitro was the Champ. But now i know he is based on a cruel and untimely death.
R.I.P. Chris Benoit. You were one of the best in the business.
What do you guys think about the circumstance with the McMahon death angle and Benoit really dying? Comments would be appreciated.
You know what, it's 1:15 a.m. ET right now and I have to edit this post. At first I was obviously shocked about the news and felt that the three-hour tribute was sincere and absolutely necessary. And of course one of their own has died, so I still believe that the tribute show was out of respect. But now with all this new news floating around, I don't know what to feel.
It's still a sad thing that someone, and actually in this case three people, have died. If the early reports are true, that Benoit killed his wife, then his son, then himself, I feel differently. How can one take the life of the people he cares about most, then take his own?
I guess I just don't know what to think. I'll try and wait it out and see what truth is.
And if it is a double murder-suicide, I guess the title of this blog post is irrelevant and should be disregarded.
