First, we'll take care of pitching:
Sign C.C. Sabathia- The Yankees need a dominant ace at the front of their rotaion.
Re-sign Mike Mussina and Andy Pettite(if he decides to comeback) - With signing these two, they establish solid third and fourth starters.
Re-sign Damaso Marte- They have always praised Marte, and they finally were able to trade for him. Too bad its his contract year. He is a great setup guy to Rivera, and they need to sign him.
Sign Brandon Lyon- You can never have too many good relievers.
With these signings, the Yankees starting pitching rotation looks like this:
2. Chien Ming Wang
3. Mike Mussina
4. Andy Pettite/Hughes
5. Joba Chamberlain
Now to the hitters
Let Giambi go- He sucks in the field, and they could use a better bat in the lineup.
Sign Mark Texeira- Perfect three hitter for the Yankees.
Move Nady to right field and sign Pat Burrell- The Yankees could use another big right-handed bat in their lineup, and Burrell can really hit.
With that being said, let Abreu go
Sign Casey Blake- They need good bench players, not people that can't hit.
Sign Cesar Izturis- A solid middle infielder, he can hit for decent average, and they need good role players.
With that being said, waive Wilson Betemit, and Morgan Ensberg.
Now I know I'm gonna get ripped for this, but:
Move A-rod to shortstop, and Jeter to third.- Jeter just doesn't have the range to play shortsop anymore, and his arm is ok enough to play third. A-rod is a much better defensive shortstop than third, so this move really helps their defense.
With those changes, their lineup looks like this:
1. CF- Johnny Damon
2. 3B- Derek Jeter
3. 1B- Mark Texeira
4. SS- Alex Rodriguez
5. LF- Pat Burrell
6. DH- Hideki Matsui- just to mix in a left-handed bat
7. RF- Xavier Nady
8. C- Jorge Posada
9. 2B- Robinson Cano
