NOW the Nationals decide to play smart baseball?? When it doesn't matter any more??

The 7th inning stretch is about to commence, and the Nats are leading Atlanta 7-3. In fact, Ryan Zimmerman just ended the top of the 7th with a fantastic play to prevent 1 (or 2) runs from scoring.

     But back to my point.

If you had said to me earlier this week that the Dodgers would be swept by the Nationals (of all teams), I would've said you were a candidate for the nuthouse. And yet, that was the case. Now, they're doing a number on the Braves tonight.

Yeah, that psychological Rubicon known as 100 losses will make you bust your **** to win, doesn't it?? Where the hell was this back in April, May or June?? Why put me through this torture??

(And for that matter, why am I writing this??)

Well, just like last year, it looks like the Nats are playing the role of "spoiler" for a lot of playoff-contending teams in the NL. If I'm the Phillies, I take the time to cram some extra focusing on the Nationals when you start to play them come Labor Day. Do NOT go to sleep on the Nats right now.

All of a sudden, I'm going to enjoy this September stretch...

Arent the red hot Nats basically the same as an ice cold Red Sox?

This is exactly what we are trying to do. The young or (baby nats) are becoming toddlers. For pitchers they talk about quality starts, these are quality wins for a youth movement that is going to take a little time. I'm on board and could not be more pleased with this season. See you in the NLCS in 2011.

Ha! NLCS 2011? Unless the NLCS is some kind of Canadian baseball league, there is no way.

Listen, I'm still holding out for a World Series in D.C. come 2013. So maybe NattyBo's on to something...
All I know is, there's GOT to be an effort by Stan Kasten and Jim Bowden to pursue free agents over the winter. That, AND overhaul the bullpen.
But I'll save that for another blog...
