Player Of The Month
West Michigan's Justin Henry was named the Midwest League Topps Player of the Month for July. He hit .396 in July with 17 runs scored and 11 RBI's. For the season, Henry is hitting .301 with 21 doubles, one homer, 40 RBI's, 67 runs scored and 22 stolen bases. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the ninth round of the 2007 draft, and made his pro debut last season with the Oneonta Tigers. Henry hit .340 last season in 67 games.
Player Of The Week
West Michigan left-handed pitcher Jon Kibler was named the Midwest League Player of the Week for August 11-17. He through an eight inning shut-out game against he Lansing Lugnuts. He only allowed four hits, walked none and struck out a season-high nine batters. At this time, his ERA was 1.63 and he lead the league in wins with 14. This is the second time this season that Kibler has won the POW award, and the sixth time for Whitecap's pitchers.
Post Season All-Stars
Whitecap pitchers Jon Kibler and Alfredo Figaro have been named to the Midwest League's Post Season All-Star team. This is the first time in history that West Michigan has had two pitchers have been named for this honor. There are only two pitchers total named to the team (left and right handed).
Kibler still leads the MWL in wins with 14, ERA with 1.75, and innings pitched with 154.1. A former Michigan State Spartan, he has excelled at 5/3 Ballpark with a 10-2 record and 1.46 ERA. He's thrown two complete games this season and was named the Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May.
Figaro was 12-2 with a 2.05 ERA in 19 starts for the Whitecaps this seasn before being promoted to Lakeland at the end of July. He also had two complete game shut-outs during his stint in West Michigan.
