Only two things make me spring out of bed in the morning - 6 a.m. workout classes and College GameDay on Saturdays....and yes, I realize how disturbing that sounds. Even though it's week one and many of the games are non-conference or FBS vs. FCS, there's still a lot to get excited about, at least if you're easily excitable when it comes to football, as I am. Just a reminder: I try to avoid predictions, and I prefer to leave the hardcore analyses to the expert analysts since, you know, they're the experts (and the ones getting paid for it).
A few things before I go tune in to Chris, Lee and Kirk....
- Appalachian State at LSU got moved up to avoid Hurricane Gustav evacuation efforts. This isn't going to be a repeat of last year's stunner in Ann Arbor but regardless, my thoughts are with everyone in the area as they prepare for the storm.
- Speaking of Ann Arbor, who would've thought that Utah would be favored over Michigan? When I say "My, how the mighty have fallen," I don't mean any disrespect toward the Utes; I'm just still marvelling at how the winningest program in college football isn't necessarily expected to win this one.
- Props to Illinois and Missouri. This time last year, I wouldn't have even noticed it was on but because of their recent successes, I'm actually looking forward to this one.
- But I'm not looking forward to any game more than USC at Virginia. I like 'em both but yall know that Southern Cal will always be my #1 and even though I couldn't make it to the game today, I can't wait to see the beginning of another stellar season of Trojan football. Make it happen, guys.
