It's going to be hard to top last year's amazing college football season, but Week #1 sure was a heck of a lot of fun. Starting Thursday night I have watched more games than I can count, but I did notice several new coaches struggled in their openers. June Jones, the savior of SMU, watched his Mustangs struggle to adapt to his offense. Much iun the same way Michigan's inexperienced offense looked lost at times as Rich Rodriguez lost his first game in his new position. Down at Texas A&M, Arkansas State stunned the Aggie faithful as Mike Sherman's squad could not get it done either.
My favorite upsets of the weekend so far were easily Bowling Green over #25 Pitt and East Carolina over #17 Virginia Tech. I tend to root for both the MAC and Conference USA and these are a couple of strong programsthat can play with most anyone in the nation.
The most impressive teams of Week #1 were USC who crushed Virginia on the roaf 52-7 and #24 Alabama who manhandled #9 Clemson 34-10.
The biggest disappointment of the weekend was the ACC. Their top two teams, #17 Virginia Tech and #9 Clemson both lost, NC State & Virginia got crushed and Maryland and North Carolina both struggled in close wins over FCS teams.
So Week #1 is almost done, and it looks like another great college football season. keep checking back as I add my thoughts as often as possible about NCAA football and more.
