What we learned this week:
1. Pitt is overrated (again)
No shock to me. I said it here and here and even begged Bowling Green to put an early end to the lunacy right here. I'm not super smart or anything -- I just look at numbers and history and couldn't find anything moving Pitt's way on either front.
Next up, they have Buffalo, a team that pleasantly surprised its long suffering fans by smashing the daylights out of what should not have been a bad UTEP team. Can Pitt go 0-2 for the MAC this year?
2. Clemson was overrated (again)
I struggle and fail to think of anything original to add to this topic.
3. Stanford may go bowling (watch out Irish...)
A solid win over a middle of the pack conference foe -- Oregon St. -- follows last season where two of their four wins were over USC and Cal. And before Jim Harbaugh took over, this was a 1-11 team. College football is all coaching and this coach looks for real.
Next up, they get Arizona State, last seen sneaking past Northern Arizona, 30-13.
Notre Dame's "easy schedule" is getting some harder questions. (Though to even things out, San Diego St, ND's home opener, lost to Cal Poly.)
4. Louisville offense... not!
The cards, amazingly a dark horse national title contender just a year ago, scored just 2 pts in their blowout loss to Kentucky at home. Isn't defense supposed to be Louisville's problem? Who would have guessed that they'd have trouble scoring. Wow, I wonder if former coach John L. Smith is still on speed dial?
