As I'm writing this (around 10:20 Eastern), the Nationals are doing a number on the Phillies. It's 9-5, Nats, bottom of the 8th, 2 away...
And they've batted around in this inning.
5 hits, 1 walk. All in this inning. And everybody contributed tonight...including Roger Bernadina, who I wrote about earlier this year. You'll recall I wrote of having seen him play @ Harrisburg back in April, and also when he made it to the big club some time later.
Thankfully, he wasn't leading off. He batted 8th in the lineup tonight, and as I was saying, he got a hit in the 8th (and stole 3rd). At any rate, he's seeing more pitches batting 8th...and just as I write that, he misjudges a fly ball (playing LF) and the Phils score to cut it to 9-6.
Hoo boy.
You'd think Joel Hanrahan would have this closer role down pat, since having it handed to him months ago. Oh, no. You blow this opportunity your teammates handed you, pal, and you start next year @ AAA (whether it's Columbus or Richmond, but that's another blog).
Launch the fireworks, boys!!! Final score: Nats 9, Phils 7.
It's never easy for these Nats, is it??? The magic number (to avoid 100 losses) is now...9. And now, Atlanta for 4 games. We own their ****, so this will be fun to watch.
