The NFL season is basically here, and needless to say I'm pretty excited. Eventually I'll do weekly game by game previews, but I really don't feel like doing that for week 1..so here we go.
Biggest Surprise Team- It will be the Detroit Lions. Lots of people have been saying this for the past few years, but I think this is the year it happens. Firing Mike Martz was the best thing for the Lions, this was just not the team to run the Mike Martz offense. They should be more balanced this year having an actual run game. Plus I think they got better by getting rid of Shaun Rogers..I still don't see their defense being good, but it will be improved. They've got to learn to finish this year..had a great start a year ago and then they dropped off the face of the universe that obviously needs to improve.
Biggest Surprise Player- I'm gonna say it will be JaMarcus Russell. The future is now in Oakland and I think he'll be good this year. He's got a whole lot of pressure on him. He kind of reminds me a little bit of Daunte Culpepper..he's got the size and he seems pretty athletic. He's going to have some rookie struggles, but I think in the long run he'll be a good player. He's going to do some good things this year.
Most Dissapointing Team- I was kind of torn on this one. I'm probably going to take a lot of heat for this one and I'm ready for it. I decided to go with the Indianapolis Colts. For one reason and only one reason. That would be Peton Manning's knee. I know it's probably not a big deal but the Colts offense is timing based and while Peyton has a good rapport with his receivers it still would have been nice to have him out there for at least a preseason game and more practices than he has been available for. They'll still be a playoff team in my mind but only a 10 or 11 win team.
Most Dissapointing Player- This seems pretty obvious but Vince Young. He's never improved in his time in the NFL 9 touchdown passes and 18 ints last year is just pitiful. He's at least got to show little signs of life this year. I don't see that happening this year. Vince Young is quckly heading towards bust status and I don't see that discussion slowing down at all. I'll give you that the Titans haven't done a whole lot to help him out but I'd expect a whole lot more from VY. He's extremely predicatble.
Biggest Rookie Impact- A lot of people say Darren McFadden and Jonathan Stewart and other people like that. But, I'm going to go completely off the board here's a guy who I've heard very little talk about, but I like him a lot and that's Devin Thomas a rookie wide receiver with Washington. He should be able to make an immediate impact with the Redskins. He's a pretty athletic guy who can stretch the field.
Worst Offseason Signing- This one is pretty simple to me it's Javon Walker. I was reading that earlier in training camp there was talk in Oakland that they might cut him. It's looking, at least right now that this guy was a waste of money. After he tore his ACL he never was really the same. He's no longer what Oakland was looking for when they signed him.
Best Offseason Signing- I personally think it was Ben Utecht going to Cincinnati. He's going to give the Bengals another pretty nice pass catching threat. This is going to create some more opprotunities for Chad Johnson(that's his name still, right?) and TJ Houshmanzadeh. It would have been easy for me to go with Asante Samuel or Jared Allen so give me a bit of credit for trying to go somewhere else.
Biggest Draft Bust Potential- I'm gonna go with Matt Ryan. There's an awful lot of pressure on this guy. He's got the future of an entire franchise basically on his shoulders. It's his job to lead this team out of the Michael Vick era..that's tough. I want him to succeed I don't know if it's going to happen.
Now I'm going to give you my divisional winners as well as the wild card teams
NFC East- Dallas Cowboys
NFC West- Seattle Seahawks
NFC South- Carolina Panthers
NFC North- Minnesota Vikings
wild card 1- Green Bay Packers
wild card 2- New Orleans Saints
AFC East- New England Patriots
AFC West- San Diego Chargers
AFC South- Indianapolis Colts
AFC North- Cleveland Browns
wild card 1- Pittsburgh Steelers
wild card 2- Jacksonville Jaguars
Well, there you have that's my NFL preview..feel free to disagree with me and call me an idiot. Or you could always agree with me..either way tell me what you thought

AFC.... I don't think both Pitt and Cleveland will make it. 9 wins could win the division with the schedule the AFC North has.... I think it will be Cleveland IMO because of PItt. 2 extra games- SD and NE.
Pats
Colts
SD
Browns
Jags
BIlls

Bills and Cardinals therefore are my surprise teams.
Disappointment team- Tampa Bay or the Giants
Rookie- Stewart
Surprise Player- Not Russell....This will be his first real action for games in the NFL which young QBs tend to struggle in and who does he have to pass the ball?? My surprise player is Jay Cutler who I feel will become and top 7 even 5 QB in the league when this year's said and done.

Of the two disappointing teams that you mentioned I'd go along with you and say Tampa..offensively they're pretty old with Joey Galloway and Jeff Garcia. I really don't think the Cardinals make the playoffs..they're exactly like the Lions to me..every year there's a ton of hype but nothing ever comes of it. And I think Cards are still just all media hype.
