After a long and grueling year of battling the Twins, blowup dolls, and former Chicago sportswriters, here are 5 reasons why the White Sox are the most fun and intriguing team in baseball...
1. Nick Swisher. The guy is hard not to like, it's rare to see players that you can tell actually enjoy playing the game. He's playing to have fun and to win which is refreshing in today's sports world and makes you want to see him succeed.
2. A. J. Pierzynski. As an opponent, you hate him, but that means he does something to make you hate him. I do not know one White Sox fan that doesn't enjoy watching him play on a daily basis. When he is out there you never know what is going to happen because he is such a smart player and thinks so fast that he constantly turns something out of nothing or bad plays into good plays. Personally, my favorite player in all of baseball.
3. Ozzie Guillen. He gets a little out of control sometimes with his rants but it always seems to work. I knew when the White Sox hired him that I would start watching post game press conferences more than I ever had in the past. For a team that had to sit through Gene Lemont, Terry Bevington and Jerry Manuel in the recent past it's nice to finally watch and listen to a guy that truly doesn't care what anyone thinks, including his bosses.
4. Carlos Quentin and Alexi Ramirez. These two guys are making Kenny Williams look like the smartest GM in baseball. Two guys that came out of nowhere to contend for MVP and Rookie of the Year honors. It's hard to imagine where the White Sox would be without them.
5. Ken Griffey Jr. and Jim Thome. These guys are two of the greatest players of all time and two of the greatest guys in the league. How could you not cheer for these two players that have fought off injuries and pesimism alike to sustain their Hall of Fame careers. The possibility of these two winning their first World Series together this year should win the White Sox a lot of fans come October.
